Edited due to mistake I made:
The Vols winning against OU was crucial to our season’s success and overall outlook. Out of all the teams we should beat, who do you see as the most viable threat on our schedule?

For me, it’s Arkansas. Even though they’re ranked, I believe we should beat them. However, if we sleepwalk through that game, it could turn into an upset.

And yes, I’m aware that sleepwalking against any team can lead to a loss, especially in college football and even more so in the SEC. But generally speaking, we should beat everyone else on our calendar outside of Alabama and Georgia. That said, even those teams are beatable for us.

What’s your take on our biggest potential stumbling block this season? Would you say Arkansas, or do you see another team as a greater threat?

Its Arkansas, but having a bye week really helps with that.

Why would any of our games be traps? Y'all gotta quit with all of this damned worrying and looking for trouble. If there ever is any, it will show itself. And we'll deal with it accordingly. GoVols. 🍊.
I agree with you and don’t at the same time lol. I think teams like Vandy and Arkansas are knocking on the door so to speak. They aren’t good but they aren’t bad and if they put it all together then they can upset teams. SC too.

But like folks said it’s the SEC. Anyone can get you if you aren’t on that day.

This team, their focus and character seem immune to traps...i.e. overlooking anyone.

Because it’s the off week and something to talk about. I enjoy reading about different scenarios from week to week as teams get better or worse. I’m not worried about any game since I don’t play them, but I do enjoy reading the conversations. And trap weeks have been a thing in college football for as long as I remember. I just don’t think this team has that mentality. If we get beat, we get beat. Not because we lost focus

Of the teams we should beat easily, Arkansas is certainly the most likely candidate I see. They are a pretty good football team, we are coming off a big emotional win in Norman, and have the Gators coming up. Don't know if Josh and the players feel as strongly about Florida as us fans, but most of us have had that one circled on the schedule. The definition of a trap game is one against a relatively weaker opponent sandwiched between two rivalry games. So the Hawgs definitely qualify. Probably the biggest factor for us going forward through is not overlooking opponents, Josh will have them focused. Its having our OTs back healthy. We are down to Larry Johnson at LT and Dayne Davis at RT and there is literally no one listed on the depth chart behind them. If they go down we're playing Freshman and Sophomores that aren't currently listed on the depth chart. If that happens Nico may not survive the gauntlet of SEC play.

Florida. Bash me all you want, but until we see a reversal in the overall trend, Florida will always be our trap game. They just always cause us heartache. Even when we beat them in '22, it was way closer than it needed to be. Part of the reason people were anxious at the end of the OU game this year was how Florida clawed back into it in '22. This year, Florida looks pretty bad. Historically bad, actually. However, if Billy really cares about his job, he will pull out every stop imaginable to beat us. He knows their fanbase expects to beat us (though many have already lost faith this year). He could be looking for any excuse to collect another year's salary. I am glad we are at home this year because playing in the Swamp would make me consider it an L. I don't care how bad they look, they will play like NFL draft picks when they see orange.

Arkansas is a close second in the trap game list. They are just not consistent enough to be a huge threat, but their offense can turn on the jets suddenly. Can't be like Auburn and turn the ball over a ton.

Im my opinion, Its Arkansas, On the road the week before Florida and Alabama. Plus If Arkansas beats Texas A.M. this weekend in college station, they will have a ton of confidence. We need to go in there seeing it as a must win.

The answer is No. Bye weeks before two games (Ark & UK) that could potentially be sandwiched between big games (but they ain't). Vols roll in all games. UGA & Bama could go either way.

Every game from here on out (except UTEP) is a possible loss if we don't show up. The good news is, it would seem that Heupel has the troops dialed in pretty consistenly this season.

Trap games happen to programs with poor leadership which isn’t currently an issue with the VOLS.

Florida. I don’t care how much they suck this year, or how “good” we are, that team historically plays us like a team full of Heisman finalists OR we **** the bed, or both.
Agree, I don't see FL as a trap game, its the FL curse. Hopefully they broke the curse in Neyland 2 yrs ago but its still alive and well in the Swamp.

In my 37 years of being a fan, I’ve never felt more comfy with a coach preventing his team from overlooking other teams. Does that mean it’ll never happen? No. But I feel it’ll be much more rare than under say Fulmer or others. Something about Heupel just screams one game at a time and that it isn’t just coach speak.
