How many games can a player participate in and still qualify for a red shirt season? Is it four like in football?
Medical hardship rule is having played in no more than 30% of the games plus zero minutes can be played in the last 50% of season. The 30% rule is generous with rounding. By rule, the injury/illness must be debilitating and season ending. I don’t recall if the 30% rule includes post season tournaments or not… seems like those games are excluded in the calculation.
The 5-page debate would be over what is considered an eligible season ending, debilitating injury as interpreted by the NCAA.
As already answered, football allows players to participate in 4 games while preserving the redshirt. Basketball does not currently have a similar rule. Right now, enter any game (other than the pre-season exhibition games) and the redshirt option is burned.
