Great interview. I will have to say that the best comment out of everything was...

Q: I heard you peeked in on your players in a classroom.
A: It makes a statement to them. I will take playing time away if they are not doing well in the classroom.

He also said he felt like it was important for him to do that himself whenever he could instead of sending an assistant.

We will see how his style of the running game plays in the SEC. We have lots of athletes here in the south, much deeper teams. If he wants to run, we will be glad to agree...

It's not just us. The SEC has always had teams that are deep with athletes. Pearl has made some runs where he has been, but he will play in a conference now that will be two, and sometimes three deep.

How long will the Vol faithful wait for this coach to recruit the depth it takes to play in this league?

I think a lot of us are hopeful that he is a good enough coach to overcome some of the lack of talent in the short term. We don't expect miracles, just a team that plays hard and is competitive. The guy was able to beat Bama and BC and hang farily close with Illinois with very subpar talent. Pearl should be able to do better than Buzz did and I feel confident he will have at least be able to get in the tourney in 3-4 years, worst case.

As for how long will vol fans give him? The over/under is 4 years. B)

I will wait, because I have a feeling that he will get it done. I know that it's naive to think that Pearl is going to have the Vols beating teams like Kentucky next year, but I think that he will have a better chance than Buzz and he hasn't coached a game in our conference yet.

The thing about Pearl is, his game is not just about running. It is about working hard. Whether it be weight's, in class, on the court or working to be a better person. All of those things are going to make better players on the court and help his cause on the recruiting trail.

I would like nothing better than to see UT competitive in basketball and if Pearl is the man so be it. I just think that UT did what was expected and took the latest "hot" coach just like they did with Buzz.

Pearl will find it tougher in the SEC. Recruiting against the likes of UK, UF, UGA, Bama, LSU.........on and on.

It was rumored early on that Hamilton was going to pony up for a big time coach. It doesn't look like that happened.

I don't disagree with anything you said.

I don't think there were any big name coaches that we could get for the $1.5 million Hamilton was willing to pay that wanted to come here.

I am a fan of the SEC now only because of Pearl. But I laugh when I hear how deep and talented the SEC is. When a Patrick Sparks can start for a UK team, then you know the talent level there is not what it was when Pitino was there. Florida, LSU, Bama? Are you kidding me. UWM showed how talented and deep Bama was.

Pearl will do fine in the SEC. This is not the ACC by any stretch of the mind.

This incredibly late into the season?

I am sure he is....Rupp and Wooden would be getting their ass kicked too if they started this late

Comparing Buzz and Bruce simplistically as 'hot' coaches is the wrong way to look at it, in my opnion. :shakehead:

If you lay out Pearl's and Peterson's resumes side by side, Bruce Pearl's accomplishments are much more extensive and impressive.

Would you prefer that Tennessee NOT take 'hot' coach? Maybe go for someone who's career is on a skid or who's accomplishments only warrant a long yawn? :snoring:

It's a no-brainer that you take a 'hot' coach.

I get a great laugh when someone mentions wanting Knight as the coach. How many more years do you think this old goat has in him? And do you think this guy cares a lick about anything at this point? He would have pissed off the rest of the athletic program and that would not go over too well at a dominant football and women's Bball program. Knight would not have been a smart choice.
