I followed him all through high school. Saw him play probably 25 times. I have seen some great high school players in Tennessee...Hardaway, Vaughn, Day, London, etc. No one..NO ONE...comes close to Tony. Today I picked up an item Ive been trying to find for a few years now...an NBA game used jersey from Tony. I finally got one!

Delk was a great player at high school and college level.

Hardaway is by far the best player to come out of Tennessee. Don't remember Delk being on any of the Dream Teams.

I still to this day believe UNLV threw that game to Duke. Too many reasons to go into on this forum but I believe it in my heart. I live in Vegas and have ties to that town...lets just leave it at that.

I have felt the same way for the past 17 years or so and have heard too many stories from a guy in Memphis that knew about some shady stuff going on with the Razorbacks around that same timeframe. Ironically, the toughest game UNLV had that year was against Arkansas with Todd Day, Corlis Williamson and Oliver Miller, and they pulled away from them after halftime. I was expecting the same level of intensity for that Duke game, but the body language of Grand Mama and Stacey Augmon was so lackadaisical and the effort that team gave in general was weak.

Derrick Anderson and Antoine Walker were the only good pros off that team. Guys like McCarty and Pope were simply 12th men. Laettner and Hill both made NBA all star teams.

Hurley, sans accident was also going to be a decent pro.

How could anyone forget Tony Delk.

Especially after Converse thought putting denim in the uniforms was a good idea.

And the shoes to match.

Mercer was a so-so pro for a few years. He just never fit the mold of a primary scorer, which is what it seems some teams wanted from him.

Ga. Tech did not win this game. UNLV won title in 1990.
You're right. I don't know what is wrong with my brain. Ga Tech had a halftime lead, but lost and then UNLV slaughtered Duke in the final.

RasputinVol....I remember the Arkansas/UNLV game very well. I have it on VHS somewhere. Arkansas started Todd Day, Lee Mayberry, Corliss Williamson, Dwight Stewart. Thats the game where Day took a half hearted "punch" at Larry Johnson. They played it in Barnhill Arena....close for a while but then Vegas rolled.

Furthermore, in response to the previous post, yes Vegas won the title over Duke in '90. They handed Coach K his worst loss ever....103-73. The next year Vegas was even better...and mysteriously lost. Hmmmmm

That Arkansas game was good for about a half...

I spent most of my week nights my senior year of high school watching UNLV pound the likes of UCSB and Long Beach State at midnight on the east coast. The way those guys played that day against Duke is without a doubt weirdest effort I've seen in my entire life. Then add in what I was told from someone who would know, I'm more than 95% convinced that game was fixed.

Wow....Rasputin we have some things in common. I too watched Vegas pound those same guys in high school. Remember how ESPN called it Big Monday! I was late for school every Tuesday because of UNLV!

For some reason, I was thinking they may have played 2 games during the week every now and then. But yeah, I didn't miss a UNLV game that entire season if it was on at midnight. Luckily, I didn't have to go to class until 9:00 a.m. :)

Coack K used to say that the only way to win back to back NCAA tourneys is to win one of them when you're not the best team. No doubt that was their formula for the back to back in '91 and '92. The '91 UNLV team was the best one I can remember.
