Anybody stupid enough to think we want ObamaCare

This should be a non-issue. Paper kept records are at a much higher risk of privacy issues. Going electronic is making your records safer.

The antiquated medical establishment is about the only industry hanging on to a purely paper recording system.

Yea paper, that is the crux of the "problem."

Highly debatable. The portability of electronic records makes security a prime concern. With more portability comes more potential for the information to be used in a discriminatory fashion. Joining of all records into common files/records/databases also arouses privacy concerns as opposed to records on an individual being scattered.

His second sentence isn't entirely inaccurate. Healthcare costs are rising at unsustainable rates.

I was talking about the gov't efficiency piece. If we believe healthcare will get cheaper with MORE gov't intervention, we deserve the pending disaster.

I work for the government and I don't even trust them to issue my paycheck correctly. The last thing I want this them to have any say in my healthcare.

I'm a contractor for the government. Imagine the crap I have to put up with.

right and medicare is 10-20 years away from literaly bankrupting this country unless we cut back on the benefits or raise taxes. why don't we tripple that obligation. brilliant!

i was listening to show about healthcare. the guy said that when medicare was first lauched, the government gave projection that the cost would be a little under 100million by 1992 (i forget the exact date) but he said the actual cost by 1990 was almost 80X more. it was also the same with medicade, the costs were enormous.

the problem is that anytime the government projects cost, you can multiply the cost by 100 and that's normally the correct figure.

how idiots don't think the cost will 10-20 times more than projected is purely naive.

if the marxist's plan passes, the private sector will be giving up 1/6 of our economy to 'the muslim' and his comrads. it's really sad.

The costs of healthcare are going up because the consumer has almost been completely removed from the process. Most people pay just 20 bucks up front to see a doctor, and then he has to get the rest by wrangling with the insurance companies. So they charge more to try to get more and to cover the time it takes to go through all the red tape, and that results in premiums climbing even higher. We honestly need to get away from expecting insurance to pay for every last band aid and bottle of aspirin and going in whenever snot starts to slightly flow, and get back to only having insurance to cover the big stuff.

My wife just recently had a baby last week (another topic but you'd be amazed the level of nanny state that exists now while filling out a birth certificate), and after hours you had to exit through the emergency room, and even late at night it felt like a clinic more than what it is really intended for... life or death emergencies. Why? Because people either know they are going to get away for free, or they just have a low deductible/co-pay. In fact we were told that if our new baby had a fever to take her straight to the emergency room instead of calling the doctor or having a clinic that was open for longer hours. All of this is the main reason why healthcare is getting more and more expensive by the day.

Doctor-centric care is the problem. We let patient-focused care slip away a long time ago.

Oh I agree, and I have come dangerously close to giving some doctor-centric care with my fist in the last 3 years since my son was born. They try to squeeze out as many visits as they can from one ailment, and I am one that doesn't go in every time he has a little bump or runny nose. One time they sent us back and to call them in the morning, all while my kid had pneumonia. Two days later I'm incurring a 750 dollar emergency room bill cause his fever spiked over 105 degrees.

Yeah, the paperless movement is made to raise cost and increase security risks.

Never stated that.

Merely pointing out the foolishness in Obama's insightful thoughtfulness. As if this will solve the healthcare problem, yea. Additionally, greedy healthcare providers will move to it if it saves them money, understand the concept? No government help needed. Obama acts as if he is on to some revolution. My PCP in podunk Murfreesboro was to a large degree paperless 3 years ago. He carried some type of HP tablet around with him. He could write me a prescription on it while I was sitting there and send it wirelessly to my local Walgreen's while I was still sitting there. But thanks anyway Obama.

congrats on the new kid. How much was your bill? My buddy just got his bill and i believe it was around $25k for 2 days.

Thanks droski. I honestly don't know yet. I know out of pocket it was a couple thousand, and we paid that through the pregnancy every doctor visit. We have insurance but it is individual coverage, that we are switching to an HSA plan later this year, and we have yet to get the statement that shows how much it all actually cost. It is absolutely crazy we spend nearly 13 grand a year when we don't even come near that on average in actual expenses so we are going to pack the difference away and use that to cover the day to day stuff. Which is something I wish more Americans would do in the end.
