Anybody think Simpson or Horne flip ?

Heupel offered 2 2022 QBs: Drew Allar and Tayven Jackson. Allar committed to PSU before they could get into the thick of his commitment, so they hard pressed Tayven and got him in. Next on the chopping board would’ve been AJ Swann who committed to Maryland
We’d already offered Simpson and Horn and Heupel pushed very hard for both. I don’t know who Allar is but if we swung and missed before pressing Tayven there’s a chance Tayven could’ve been as low as 4th on the board. Even if that were the case that doesn’t mean Tayven isn’t good. Who knows. But I do think anyone who thinks Heupel didn’t want Simpson before Tayven is kidding themselves.

I’m not sure our staff really wanted Horne. That’s why he went elsewhere.
I could be wrong but I think what I’m recalling was a “2-minute drill” or something like that on YouTube with Rob Lewis and Brent Hubbs. I want to say it was right after Simpson chose Alabama and Brent was like “Where do the Vols go from here?” And Robs response began with Horn. Said we were pressing hard but may not have enough time to close the gap, then he brought up Jackson. My memory not as good as it used to be though. I’ll dig around sometime this week and see if I can find the clip.

Why would he want a guy who went a whole game without getting a single first down? At this point, he’s the 2nd best QB in the state at best. Luther Richesson has passed him

Your last sentence is unprovable. When Heupel was hired here Simpson wasn’t committed yet so of course he is gonna push for him. Instate guy and we had traction with him. But saying JH wanted Simpson more isn’t necessarily true. Could be but definitive. I think you are looking at rankings and Ty being instate over anything else.

Jackson is super raw. A grifted athlete who can do a ton, but hasn’t been asked to do much through the air. He’s averaging less than 10 passing attempts per game this season. Definitely a project QB and not likely to see much if any play time next season. Just from what I’ve watched and seen.

I’ve explained in this thread why I said he was our top target. To dismiss that and say I’m just looking at rankings is to say I’m a liar . That’s pretty rude. The discussion that makes me think Simpson/Horn were 1/2 on the board begins at around 3:35

The next weeks conversation on QB recruiting is here beginning at 25:14

You seem like an a-hole but I’ll give you a link anyway. The discussion that makes me think Simpson/Horn were 1/2 on the board begins at around 3:35

All speculative at that point. Austin didn’t think Tayven was anywhere close to even visiting and was shocked when he committed beforehand. It was in a War Room where Brent said that Horn was third on Heupel’s board.

I think they’ll stick with Jackson, but the only one I could see then possibly going after is Simpson if Simpson shows some interest…because Simpson is an instate guy who could potentially bring others with him.

A lot of people think Drew Allar is probably a top 3 QB this class, if not higher. Idk why 247 has him so low (#6)

Makes sense. I think they’re all really good. Should be able to win with any of them

Simpson was definitely the top target but Heupel was way too late to the party (no fault of his own). Him and his dad loved Pruitt, not the school per say. Simpson is a much more athletic version of Mckenzie Milton. He would have been perfect in this offense. That being said, neither of these guys are in play on the recruiting board anymore. We have our guy for '22. Time to move on.

Just following how the recruiting process played out. Simpson was our top target until he committed to Bama. Then Horn was our top target but we got in too late and he already had his mind made up. Then we took the commitment from Jackson
Pretty sure Simpson was not Heup's top target. I think he was the previous staff's top. Not sure about Horn. I am very sure that Heup likes Jackson and like the OP said, he has his guy.

Simpson was 100% his top choice. Not sure Horn was really the 2nd choice though. Jackson is a better fit for the system than he is. He just had the strong UT ties.
He really wasn't. Heup kicked the tires when he got here and Simpson told him he would give him a shot when, in reality, he had already made up his mind.
