Anyone else think our schedule is as good as we could ask for?

No our schedule could be much better. I would love to have GA's schedule.
No, I'm with the OP on this.

We've talked for months now about how crazy-easy UGa's schedule is in 2023. But our schedule and theirs, they are VERY similar. Check it out:

Four OOC cupcakes each. Their power 5 OOC, Georgia Tech, is significantly better than our P5 OOC, Virginia. CBS ranks Ga Tech #67 and UVa #94. Otherwise, these are all games that both our teams should win.

Five SEC East opponents, all shared. The most significant of those, Florida and USCe, we both have the same advantages and disadvantages: USCe at home for both, Florida away for both (you'll say, "no, UGa-FL is neutral site," but c'mon...Jacksonville is IN Florida, an hour from Gainesville...but 5 hours from Athens, GA. No idea why UGa puts up with this as a "neutral" site).

So that's 9 of the 11 games we play against everyone but each other, and the schedules are SUPER similar. All but identical.

So what's the difference? UGa plays Auburn (away) while we play Bama (away) ... and UGa plays Ole Miss at home while we have A&M at home. Bama's definitely harder than Auburn. But Ole Miss is probably (too early to be sure, but probably) better than A&M.

And that's it.

Our schedules are as close to twins as two college football schedules can get. I would say ours is tougher, because of the Bama game, but everything else (Ole Miss vs A&M, Ga Tech vs UVa) tilts back toward UGa. So not THAT much tougher.

The OP is right. We have a sweet schedule this year. UGa does too, of course.

Here's hoping we make something sweet out of it, like another 10-2 or better run.

Go Vols!

I still think the schedule is about as favorable as it could be. Only Kentucky and Vandy get us after bye weeks. There could be a lot of injuries and fatigue for some of our opponents that we can exploit IF our offense can get going with some consistency.

We get...

Florida- definitely down right now as OP said

UTSA- with a questionable at best Frank Harris who was in a boot last night on the sideline with a toe injury

SCar- after consecutive weeks against UGa and Miss St.

A&M- after consecutive weeks against Auburn, Arkansas, and Alabama (we will be off a bye week)

Alabama- after consecutive weeks against Ole Miss, Miss St, A&M, and Arkansas (we will be off bye week and A&M).

Kentucky- after consecutive games against Florida, Georgia, and Missouri. They do get a bye week before UT at their place.

Missouri- after a trip to Georgia

Georgia- after consecutive weeks against Florida, Missouri, and Ole Miss.

Vandy- off a bye week but that doesn't seem to be concerning most likely.

Also didn't mention UConn because.... UConn.
Also:
Uf- no qb
SCar- no oline
A$M- no secondary
Utsa- no qb
Bama- no qb, ol, secondary
Uk- no qb
Mizzou- no adult head coach
Uga- no homefield, no rain
Vandy- no good

Not saying we will run the table. Not saying we will win tomorrow. Cautiously optimistic each game. Sports will rip your heart out.

BUT...

- We played 6 ranked teams in REGULAR season last year. We only have 2 this year at the moment.
- We play Florida away tomorrow but they are down.
- We play Bama away but they may not be the bohemoth they have been in the past. Still one of our biggest/toughest tests.
- We play South Carolina at HOME.
- We play TAMU at HOME.
- We play Georgia at HOME.
- The rest of the schedule is comprised of games we should win.
- Even with losing a game, 11-1 could still get us in the playoffs. Losing to Bama and some how beating an undefeated Georgia at home...I think we would be a lock. That's way down the road...

With all that said...to me the schedule is on our side this year.

Sure, why not?

" "no, UGa-FL is neutral site," but c'mon...Jacksonville is IN Florida, an hour from Gainesville...but 5 hours from Athens, GA. No idea why UGa puts up with this as a "neutral" site)."

I can actually explain this:

1. 50% of the seating is reserved for either team, which is not the case if UGA played in the swamp.
2. UGA fans mostly stay in Georgia hotels just over the border because Jacksonville is so close.
3. By playing in Jacksonville at such a large venue, UGA makes more money than if they played in Gainesville, so that's better than playing in the swamp.
4. UGA fans travel pretty well, but Jacksonville is pretty on the ocean so students, alumni and many fans arrive early and make a mini beach weekend out of it, so the whole weekend has a different, more festive vibe to it.
5. Jacksonville beach breeze feels a lot less swampy than playing in Gainesville.

IMO, all of those things make it good for UGA plus they get credit for playing an away game, but one where 50% of the fans at the game are UGA fans.

Swap Virginia, AP, UTSA, and UCONN for Penn State, Clemson, Colorado, and Memphis. That would be more ideal. Our 4 ooc games this year are embarrassing. I don’t want to see Tennessee sleep walk to a win vs UCONN. I’m want to see them play and beat the best.

While that would be a fun schedule…we’ve played a murderers row of a schedule the last ten years or so while others play favorable opponents week in and week out. Let someone else walk through the fire this season.

That all makes great sense. Thanks for explaining!

Yes a lot of cupcake games that I hate. No challenges with them. A hard schedule puts hair on your chest!
