Ever here of Calvin Talford? (not sure spelled the last name right)
Damascus, VA here, Holston High class of '95. Great to hear all the old names in here...Clintwood, Castlewood, Powell Valley, Wise, Chilhowie, etc. Mostly VA Tech fans in that area but UT definitely had their fair share of fans there too. I ended up in Chattanooga.
We played at different times, one of my high school friends was a trainer and when i would get out of class we would meet and go run some games. Thats been along time ago and the exact times i really don't remember. GBO!
Sure have. I played against him in the Colms center league a few years ago. He held the state record for high jump (maybe still) at over 7 feet. I know his cousin T.J. as well as Brandon. All are Talfords. They are all class acts as well. Another cool note about Calvin is his face was on a Coca Cola can in Austria in the mid 90s when he played in their pro league.
He was a baller. Always thought if he was a little heavier he coulda stuck on a team in the NBA.
I used to play out there 15-20 years ago. Remember this old guy who played for Rupp. He would kill young guys with a drop step and 10' jumper. It was fun watching them get mad trying to guard him.
He beat us in the '85 Region C baseball championship game, I always thought he would end up playing baseball.
I do remember him dunking over this kid Tony from Floyd County in the Region C basketball tourney in 88 (I think). He took off from the foul line and jumped over his head.
For the VA vols on here. If you are unaware, we are trying to get a Power T license plate in the state. Please help us reach our goal of getting a license plate in VA.
Here is an update on the license plates. We are at 150 and will try another big push during football season. The link is still the same - http://web.utk.edu/~utaa/email/110715-valicense2. Although, it says October 15, 2012 deadline, there is no real deadline, as we can't get the license plate until we get the 350 prepaid applications.
Please continue to spread the word, and if you want one, please send in your plate and don't wait for us to get to 350. We need you to get us to 350, or you will be waiting for eternity, while at the same time, getting upset at seeing Auburn or Florida plates in VA.
Both. Haven't had a chance to ride down there yet. I hear good things about bays mtn
I ask at the DMV about signing a petition or how to get the power T license plate and they said that the University of Tennessee and University of Kentucky both refused to let Virginia have the rights to them. I will sign the petition on the site though. I don't know if the idiots at this DMV even knew what they were talking about.
