Anyone know the UNC/Hatchell Story?

Why would they commit an abundance of money to a sport that does not generate its own revenue? Women’s basketball is not a money maker, so it doesn’t make sense to pour a lot of money into it.
Because when it wins, it at least pulls it's own weight thusly freeing up funds to be used elsewhere. Duh.

I think most of us understand that the media inflames, skews, and mis-reports, partly in hopes of accidentally being right and getting an award, during any coaching search. There's a small group of connected folks I'll listen to, but ratings-driven media outlets like ESPN are not in that group.

I'm sure Fulmer's really gonna contact an ESPN reporter and say "hey, I'm about to offer Kelly the job. Just thought you might want to know before it happens..."

Personally, I think Kelly could do well here. We'd get a twofer I guess, since her husband would come as assistant (I presume). But there are quite a few other good candidates as well. I don't see this ending badly.

I hope you're right about it ending well

I base that partly on believing there's a big candidate pool, we have the money to get who we want, the facilities are ALREADY top notch, and also partly on the belief that our athletic department is on the rise as a whole. Our brand has improved greatly over the last year. No reason for a top coach not to come here. They can recruit to the brand, to Pat's legacy, and to amazing facilities.

Just wondering... Is UT not obligated under some title number ( 9-1-5 or some labor law) to include minorities in there search?
Kellie would cover a part of this search even if she were not a real possibility.

Hell... Go hire Hatchell. She'd be a HUGE step up coaching wise.

All this "culture" whining BS is from kids that grew up getting trophies for failure. NONE of them no what it means to WORK for anything! This generation is a waste.

I doubt CPHS would be able to coach today's pussified, whiny, bitches.
I don’t no man, know one really nose what it’s like to be a high profile athlete in today’s world.🤓
GBO!!

Hatchel is an old style Pat Summit kind of coach. I am sure she has nailed some players with some really tough love and that is something that is disappearing in womens basketball now. Players don't want to take criticism or harsh wording about their play. This is all this is about some players got their feelings hurt and don't like it so now they need to be coddled by the AD and want a coach that will give them love and let them do as they please.

Students and their faculty enablers have taken over UNC-CH. Some issues on campus have been legitimate; others are the mob holding the administration hostage. Chancellor Carol Folt (well respected higher ed admin) finally had enough and split town for USC. This looks like a continuation of recent patterns...

sounds like some 'woke' students to me. they're an example of what's to come at other (southern) campuses. the unc system ran folt away, not the student students

Most are “woke” yes but that’s not really the issue. As an arm of state government, procedures and process are vitally important to public institutions. This becomes even more important if your state government is run by Republicans since most campuses are pretty liberal. Carol Folt was on the same side of many of the “woke” students but they failed to recognize the tight rope she had to walk with the NC legislature/UNC BOT. She couldn’t just say screw the rules “we’ll do what we want whenever we wanna do it” which is what they wanted.

georgia tech, UNC, LVs, have some similarities re how players and coaches do or don't communicate and buy-in. Just for fun what is the definition of "toxic environment?"

I'm looking to see if there are any other candidates we would know if anyone else is contacted. I think he should at least interview four or five candidates even if they are all women. If it is Kelly then it will be her and her husband as an Assistant and two others unknown. I was hoping the next coach would keep Sharonna Reaves but that is looking bleak unless we go in another direction. If Kelly is hired look for an entire new staff. Kelly making 250 thousand if Phil offers her the job at 750 k I think she would walk to Knoxville to accept. Her husband is making 89 k as an Assistant could certainly get 175 k here so almost a million for the family quite a steep increase in salary. She also has Stiles who I think has been a head coach somewhere and a former player I am sure both of them will be begging to go from 75 k to 150 k in a week.

I believe that Stiles was a star player for MSU. Didn't see her doing any coaching during the tournament. She is retired from the WNBA

It looks like Tennessee isn't showing the commitment moneywise and otherwise it takes to become a powerhouse in women's college basketball again. Tennessee may be looking for another women's head basketball coach in 5 years if this is true.

While on the surface, it wouldn't have been our first pick, I will have to hold my opinions until I see how this thing goes. She may return us to glory, who knows.

There are actually four transferring from UNC (all placed their names in the transfer portal BEFORE the staff was put on leave, contrary to the "breaking" media reports yesterday). Three appear to be grad transfers: don't they have the right to move on after earning a UNC degree?

Also could 6-4
Malu Tshitenge
be on the move hmm
