Anyone remember the type of recruits Coach Martin said he wanted?

He also said he wanted 3-4 year guys, which means you can generally count out most NBA prospects as recruits, since few have any desire to be 3-4 year college guys making money for everybody else but themselves.

Great players that have substance and high level of character. Not just a ball player, a well rounded young man. 3-4 year guys that he can build teams around. It sounded like he was describing Tobias, to me. Hope he can bring him back.

That's what all coaches say that can't recruit the one and done superstars.

Or more accurately stated in Martin's case, coaches that DON"T WANT to recruit one and one guys. Martin didn't say he wasn't going to recruit one and doners, he said he was going to build around 3-4 year players. I have zero problem with that philosophy.

I am taking bets from anyone that in a couple of years, the fanbase will like this guy more than they did Pearl

Please name a price. You're insane. Before this season, Pearl walked on water around here and you know it. Hell, he still does to 99% of this board.

Sounds like the kind of players that get you out of the NCAA very early if you get there at all -- see Weber's recruits this decade at Illinois, Stalling's recruits this decade at Vandy, Lavin's recruits at UCLA, most of Painter's recruits at Purdue, and most of Keady's history at Purdue. If we count Pearl's on-court performance, not his off-court conduct, then the standards would be:

Pearl-Tennessee
Elite 8: 15%
Sweet 16: 50%
NCAA: 100%

Green-Tennessee
Elite 8: 0%
Sweet 16: 25%
NCAA: 100%

Keady-Purdue
Elite 8: 8%
Sweet 16: 20%
NCAA: 67%

Weber-Illinois
Elite 8: 12% (only with Bill Self's recruits)
Sweet 16: 25% (only with Bill Self's recruits)
NCAA: 75% (only 50% without Self's recruits)

Stallings-Vandy
Elite 8: 0%
Sweet 16: 15%
NCAA: 40%

Lavin-UCLA/St. John's
Elite 8: 12% (only with Harrick's recruits)
Sweet 16: 62% (50% with own recruits)
NCAA: 87%

Basically, a likely repeat of Jerry Green's tenure at Tennessee, or a little below.

If that was the case, why did he come to Tennessee? Pearl has put how many players in the NBA?

Him and his father did TONS of research on which team Tobias could both play early, & best showcase his ability. It came back to Pearl and UT.
