Haith did what anyone on VN could do with that squad. I can see the reasoning, but a stupid choice in my book. As good as TR was at Kansas, I don't think anyone can argue against Davis as the choice.

Davis was far and away the best player in the country.
Haith is a head scratcher. I could probably pick 3 better candidates without even thinking about it.

Why is Haith a bad choice?

Mizzou was not suppose to to anything this year, lost their best player, and they still won 30 games.

Yes, they blew a 2 seed but that happens...

Everyone laughing at Haith...opinions for COY???

And don't say cal, because your argument against haith is he did what was expected. Well cal has also done basically what was expected.

So who deserves COY?

Groce? Pitino? Painter? Cronin?

Pitino deserves (deserved, I guess) his share of consideration. I don't think Steve Prohm got the hype he deserved for taking Murray State to a 30+ win season, regardless of SOS.

I also said that I understood the reasoning. You have to pick Haith, it's the logical choice in terms of a program achieving more than most thought, in his first year. What I'm saying is that the coach didn't elevate the program, the program elevated the coach. He is average, and Mizzou will be also in a few seasons.

Although much of the media would gasp at the notion, I think Boehiem would have to be high on the list as well considering the adversity and problems he trudged through to get his team where he did.

I think he did go through a lot, and maybe he's a shoe-in if he's still playing. Not COY, imho. Prohm Deserves consideration and I think you could argue for Pitino.

Does Boeheim start in the ACC next year? If so, I think his ongoing success will be limited by playing both Duke and UNC twice.

He would have my vote. Had he made the FF with the turmoil his team went through he would be the favorite IMO

He played the entire season with primarily 3-4 guards at all times. They did over achieve at times. Can that not be put on the coaching? To call him or the program average in a few seasons is premature. Mizzou for years until recently has been considered a BB school.

Haith got handed a good team. Let's see how they are next year. Cal took a bunch of freshmen and made them the best team in the nation.

Terrible.

Cal has taken a handful of guys who under different rules never would have played in college with an additional handful of lock NBA draft prospects to the Final Four.

Cal can roll a ball onto the floor and that team will win. Great recruiting, sure, but CoY-worthy? No.

If you expected the best defensive team in the country and only two losses and an undefeated SEC season, then you had high expectations.

That's a complete contradiction.

Haith shouldn't get it because he got handed a good team.

Meanwhile, cal should have got it because he coaches a team who's lineup has 3-4 NBA lottery picks on it??

The defensive and sec record don't mean much UK fans will tell you that. It's all about NCAA tournament results.

The expectation was a final four and most said national championship.

Where was UK and Missouri ranked pre season, where will they end? Pretty obvious who exceeded expectations, and who met expectations.

Cal recruits his own players. It's not contradictory at all.
