Mickey Dearstone just said Murray Bartow is "one of the best coaches in the country."

There were several articles before the game warning not to take ETSU lightly.. They defintely brought their "A" game last night.

If Mickey says it, then I believe it.

If only we'd known, the students could have stormed the court and carried Swiperboy off the court on our shoulders

For what it's worth, Pearl said yesterday afternoon that this year's ETSU team is better than last year's squad who came close to being the first 16 seed to advance when they played top seeded Pitt. They played Louisville to the wire in Freedom Hall this year already. The guards are there to make some noise in March.

Not that I'm a hugh Ark. fan but to be fair, they are REALLY playing short handed....if they get a couple of those suspended guys back, they will be much better....
Yeah, look at all the SEC games they won with those guys last season.

ETSU played #1 seed Pitt down to the wire last year in the first round of the tourney.

Just because you lose to the big boys without being embarrassed doesn't make you any better than mediocre. Just ask Buzz Peterson

2 thoughts;
1) this is not the same ETSU team that pushed Pitt last year
2) Arkansas is atrocious. Lost by 30 to L'ville on a neutral court, beat Appy St. at home in OT, lost to Morgan St. at home, lost to ETSU at home and lost to S Alabama at home.

After being an ETSU alum effective last May I do have to say he does well in recruiting, but he doesn't do well with game management. He was lucky with getting Tim Smith away from the Marquette squad when they had D-Wade, but his big guys are usually soft. Isaiah is a great guy but he is way too thin. His recruiting of Pigram from Memphis and Tiggs from Detroit were great pickups but his teams usually underachieve.

I've got to agree with footballhooters on this one. Hes a good recruiter and decent coach at best. He might be a good coach for the school, but after being at the school and seeing both DeChellis and Bartow coached teams, I don't think there's a comparison. DeChellis left Bartow a stacked team (Zakee, Tim, Jerald to name a few) making him look great his first year. I think he's coming around and hopefully he'll prove me wrong, but "one of the best in the country", i don't think so.
