So you agree that education cannot realistically be a high priority for him.

Why cant it be? Whether it is or not, it still doesnt matter. The kid wanted to go to college and did his best to only accept money needed. For the ncaa to turn a kid down that actually wanted to attend college sounds idiotic. Especially when he didnt need it.

So are all UK fans expecting him to enroll for classes while he's in the NBA? He should since it's apparently so important to him.

A pro is someone who accepts money for services...he accepted money, but the argument was that he only accepted enough to get by.

Example:
A top private school can cost over 30 thou a year. Kanter accepted approx. 100 thou through his high school career for education, food, traveling and rent.

I understand you have no sympathy, its expected for you to feel that way. But if a kid keeps meticulous records since he was 13 in hopes that one day he can play college ball, and he doesnt get cleared....but others have broken MUCH worse rules and yet they still play? Somethings off.

Isn't his father very well off? And why haven't other Euros ran into this?

Yeah, apparently his father is loaded, has enough money to buy an NBA team.

Other foreigners have had the same problem. I dont have the memory to remember which ones, but this isnt the first time this has happened with the NCAA.

No, not a very intelligent question.
I think the demanding schedule of the NBA keeps players from doing just about anything.

Sorry you don't understand sarcasm. So stands my point that the education factor is nothing and irrelevant. The kid was a professional player. Can't do that if you want to play in the NCAA. There was no good reason that he played for the Turkish team. I'm sure it was an egotistical choice, but when he realized he was interested in playing college ball, he should have known he wouldn't have been able to. If this kid's dad was so well off, Kanter should not have been worried about receiving minimal funds from a professional team when he was 16.

I believe the benefit of playing was to get better. I seriously doubt playing at the local YMCA in Turkey would have polished his skills. As for receiving minimal funds, I dont think they thought it was an issue. 100 thou in 4 years seems less than what a lot of high school players are receiving now. The Turk government/committee was pissed Kanter left and wouldnt help the NCAA at all during the investigation. They stalled the process and wouldnt meet with the NCAA.

Regardless, I'm glad its over. UK is fine without him, but sucks for the kid.

The AA ruled he could still keep his scholarship so he can
go ahead with his education. Cal has already defeated
your argument by stating that he would be at his side in
this years NBA draft.

WRONG.

"Enes will always be a part of our family and I plan to be by his side in the green room whenever he is drafted."

Good try, though.

Now that he cant play, practice or even train with the team. I would think he'd go pro.

Judge, you're trying to reason with the people who defend tooth and nail a coach who lied to the NCAA about recruiting violations and then obstructed the investigation by coercing other witnesses to lie. Enes is what it is now. How it's different than a kid going to oak hill or another private school and getting "paid" is different I haven't figured out yet. Either way it is what it is. I am interested in seeing if the kanters take the 'aa to court or not

Whyy accept Funds at all then? His family is very wealthy. I'm pretty sure his turkish team would have had no problem at all with him playing for free...so nice try. Doesn't mean he'd have to play at the Y.

UK fans referencing the Cam Newton situation is just dumb. Auburn and Co. will get theirs and then some when the investigation is done so quit whining about inconsistency. Wow.

And Kanter wouldn't have graduated with a UK degree, he just wanted to get to the NBA faster and with a higher stock and Cal provides that...so don't play that card either.

The AA is really showing itself for what it really is this year. It isn't about protecting the student athlete. It is about protecting fortunes amassed by television and media rights. At least that is more recognizable to those who would take the time to defend the Gestapo just a few short years ago.
