Applewhite to Texas as RB coach?

just heard Bill King talking about this on Rivals Radio. Basically, everyone hates working for Saban. Apparently it's a well known thing in coaching circles that he's an egomanical maniac.

I guess Applewhite's alma mater calling was a greater pull than having an OC position in the SEC. If he leaves I wonder who Saban will find to replace him. I'm sure a lot of head coaches are a huge pain in the ass. Most of the successful ones look very full of themselves.

"Applewhite is earning $250,000 as offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide..."

Talk about your disparities in salary. How does Saban sign his deal, then offer that to an OC with a straight face? sheesh.

Probably the same way a lot of CEO's and various other higher ups make ludicrous salaries by comparison. But, it probably helped that Applewhite was a bit green in the grand scheme of things. I think Saban's salary is pretty outrageous, but then I don't really care for the coaching free-market college football has created recently. Alabama fans may be (or were) pleased to land Saban, but they didn't do themselves or anyone else a favor in the long run.

Im sure he'll need some help collecting those LOI's from all the 5 stars commits
Makes you sick doesn't it. Saban's team played in the toilet bowl, won 7 games lost six and he is having a field day in recruiting. Here we are a few weeks away from signing day and we have the number 43 class according to rivals. Its enough to make me puke.

I certainly do not doubt Saban's ability, method, or coaching style. If..and that is a big if...his OC and DC leave in January he is going to have some work to do.

A whole lot of work. What's that say about you when your OC leaves for a demotion?

Saban tends to come across as a pompous ass.

Saban is also benefiting from offering playing time to pretty much every recruit he talks with. He grabs a couple 5/4 star recruits at WR/RB/whatever and it helps his recruiting score.

I'm finding it hard to give a damn, but clearly he does not come across that way to high school seniors. Nor to prospective coaches it would seem, given the salary he's offering assistants relative to his own.

Apparently not...until they have spent some time coaching with him.

Saban had a horrible reputation as to treatment of assistant coaches as early as his tenure at Michigan State...he was known to be ridiculously demanding, as well as cheap, and when he bolted from msu to lsu there were a number of his assistants looking to go anywhere he was not (rumor was their wives could not stand saban)...who knows?

Applewhite shared the OC position this year at Alabama. According to Birmingham radio this morning, recruits are still on board. John Parker Wilson showed no improvement under Applewhite's leadership, in fact, got worse. For Applewhite to take a running back position at Texas is a slap to Bama. But, he has not taken it yet. On the way this morning to Austin. Saban has said he does not want to lose him, but he will probably replace him with someone better and more experienced.

You have to give Fulmer that, it seems that the people that work for him actually like him. Fulmer has more class in his pinky than Saban, Petrino and Urban have combined. It wouldn't surprise me if this was true about Applewhite leaving and I hope Steele is right behind him.

Experienced yes, but Applewhite is an up and coming coaching star. He'll be a great OC in the college ranks somewhere someday.
