going back to the alma mater had to be appealing as well......he already has a relationship with the HC, knows the culture, and will be well known in state when he walks in to a recruits living room to have a talk with the folks.
and it's not like Texas sucks. throw in that the only "real" competition in the conf. is OK, and he's upgraded his opportunity for conf. titles, BCS bowls etc.....at another high profile, tradition rich program.
would be a no brainer for me. if Saban is an SOB to work for to boot, then that's just icing on the cake.
good point, but even still, he knows, as do most TX fans, coaches and alum, where he stands in that program's history. his reputation as he left TX was stellar, he knows that. he left with a lot of people respecting him in the end. i doubt there's a ton of bad blood, and apparenlty not enough for him to go back.Volfanbill bought up a good point about that though, Texas gave Applewhite the screw job when he was there.

Has anyone else ever felt that Saban was maybe, sort-of a little sketchy with his 'recruiting' prowess'? I just feel it odd that the guy has been a monster recruiter, even at a place like MSU. Any thoughts?
