Been a fan since I was a student here in the early '80's, and I'd have to say it's really close between this team and the '97 and '98 teams.

I'll give 2022 the edge because of the hurdles they had to overcome and the players who stuck it out instead of taking the easy way and bailing. The commitment and family like feeling of this group, the job Heupel has done to put UT football back where it belongs, and the fact that I just like him a lot more than Fulmer - blasphemy to some maybe, but he lost me with his meddling and pettiness since he was removed as coach - put it over the top.

So by a whisker it's 2022.

2022 is my favorite team because they exceeded expectations not only for TN but probably for any other college team this year, Cinderella story!
I loved the teams of old, especially late 60s; Kiner, Priest, Majors, Reynolds, etc, those teams were expected be great, but at 72 the 2022 team are the most freshest and biggest surprise in my mind…lol

Two that haven’t been mentioned are the 1989 and 1990 squads. The first pain I felt watching the Vols were during those seasons and I realized I was emotionally invested, so those will always be memorable to me. We were so talented in 1990 and finished 9-2-2 but let wins get away vs Colorado, Auburn, Bama, and Notre Dame. Had a chance to win all four in the closing seconds. What could’ve been…

NO. But if they wind up winning the NCS, YES. There are many reasons for why I say this. A program that was as hopelessly trapped and abandoned as a Russian T-90 in an Ukraine swamp; then in two years transforming into ab M1A1/2 Abrams, freeing itself and obliterating BMPT Terminators.

Moreover, the team knocked off three of our tormentors in the same season. Now, if this team goes all the way and takes the NC too, it is equivalent to Tyson Fury being literally knocked out by Deontay Wilder. Then dragging himself to his feet, beating the 8 count and finishing the fight. You better believe they'd be my favorite team of all time, past, present, and as it unassembled.

That's kind of how I feel about the '82 team that beat #2 Alabama, the greatest sporting event I've ever seen. That team was so loaded with talent (Reggie White, Willie Gault, Bill Bates, Mike Cofer, Reggie McKenzie, etc.) and yet they were a .500 team. An incredibly frustrating team, and a poor coaching job by Majors, but delivered as great a sports moment as anyone could ever hope to see in their lifetime.

O1 team would be up there but Rohan Daveys Mom and her juju ruined it oh nm we couldn't stop Bootys qb draw
98 was fun, 04 with freshman qbs and Elite o-line, 95 was fun minus one game in the rain

I love this team and depending on how the season ends, they could end up my fave for sure, but I fell in love with the Vols as a 16 year old just moved to Knoxville from west Texas in 1985...it is going to be hard to knock them off of that spot.

That scrappy team in that season that was filled with so much adversity epitomizes what it is to be a Tennessee Volunteer to me, and waxing the mighty big-mouthed, star-filled roster Hurricanes and their arrogant turdhead coach ended the season on the greatest high note.

This team will always have a really special place in my heart, no matter what happens, but they still have unfinished business. If they can do what the SugarVols did and accomplish the impossible...then at worst they will sit on the same top shelf in my heart, and at best they will truly be my favorite of all time.

In Coach Heupel's 2nd year leading the Vols, we have achieved so much. A win over Mizzou gave us 9 wins on the season, more than any Vols team since 2007, I believe. We lead or are near the top of several offensive categories and have a legitimate Heisman calibur QB.

With wins over Pitt, Florida, LSU and Bama we achieved a #1 ranking and are currently #5, with a high chance of being selected for the college football playoffs. This was done in just 22 months after finishing 3-7 and having a massive exodus of talent through the transfer portal.

Are they your favorite Vols? If not, then who? The SugarVols? The National Champion Vols of '98? Are they tied with another Vols team?
They may be top 4 for me. The season ain't over yet. Don't Jenks us!

I was 7 in 98, so I don’t remember too much about those glory days. I really got into Tennessee football in high school. So, yes, the 2022 team has been my favorite of my life time.
