are the terrorists winning

I'll certainly defer to you in these matters, I was only trying to point out that large forces are not as effective confronting an enemy who prefers to hide among the population and strike via explosives and using hit and run tactics.

As for the part in bold what specifically need to change for us to be successful IYO? Do you see any reason to believe they will address the problem and move forward?

I agree that smaller more specialized and well trained units are certainly more effective in confronting an enemy like we see in Afghan. We learned how much more effective units like these can be in Vietnam, our LRRP's were essential in gathering intelligence and harassing their supply corridors. I have always enjoyed reading about those men and their experiences from Vietnam.

You are correct, large forces are not going to do a thing for us in this scenario. In fact they would be self defeating.

Do I see a change for us? Nope. The rules in place for warfare as we abide by them are not relaxing they are in fact, tightening up.

What will cause a change? Whole scale American epiphany? The groups that scream and holler about enforcing and making up these rules are either not US citizens or a small, very vocal minority that the press eats up. In simple terms US citizens do not want to know what atrocities are being committed and are not prepared to deal with them when they are shown via the media. As you know, bad things are going to happen in war. Things that will make you evaluate your support and in the end, if you do not accept and forgive your own, all is lost.

Yes they are, and until we get past all this PC crap they will continue to. I never thought I'd say it because I've always been taught to be respectful to everyone I meet or see, which I am, but I agree with what Newt said the other day. It is time to start profiling.

Tough day today in Afghanistan. It's thought that the CIA lost 8 employees in one suicide bomber attack and another attack killed 5 Canadians.

First off we should have a CIA director with better than a single digit IQ, after all the 'I' is supposed to stand for 'intelligence.

The accused "panty bomber" made a dramatic final call to his father that he found so alarming, the father approached Nigerian officials who took him directly to the CIA's station chief in the Nigerian capital, sources told ABC News.

Directly to the CIA station chief????? And liberals went into melt down over Val the Gal Plame who wasn't even under cover.

What happened when they knew who our station chief in beiruit was??

Reagan had the gonads to do something about Ghadafi but his democrat feathers showed up in Lebanon!!!!

BTW, the Gander newfoundland air crash was an act of muslim sabotage, that was about the time we stuck our heads up our collective asses and pretended islamic jihad wasn't happening, not to mention the Beiruit embassy bombing and the Marine barracks killing.

janet20napolitano20system20worked.jpg

Is that a stick of dynamite in your pants or are you just glad to see me??

The same CIA that invited a supposed Afghan informer onto their base and failed to search him first. End result, at least 7 CIA operatives blown to bits. Really has to make your wonder what is going on within the CIA.

Those ROE's were in place before Obama, and even Bush II. They were formed, I believe right around the time I joined and they evolved into the most prohibitive rule set ever devised for warfare.

Not all blame falls on Obama.

I believe you are dead wrong about that.

American casualties have doubled in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.

I've thought all along we had less buisness in Afghanistan than in Iraq.

Being PC is crippling this country across the board in life. Yes, it's hitting us especially hard in the war on terror, but there are many things across all spectrums that are forcing groups of people in certain demographics to give up their rights as to not offend another demographic.

I don't think they are "winning," but I really think we need to quit hem hawing around about this, because we aren't necessarily winning either. IF we are going to be over there we need to quit the walking on eggshells crap and just start laying waist to areas until we have basically carpet bombed the entire area of suspected terrorist camps/bases. I understand that strategy would not win us very many votes across the world, and most likely would never happen.

Frankly, we can't balance the checkbooks, we should not be mortgaging our grandchildren's lives for the policing of the whole world so we need to circle wagons with ALL our troops from around the world (if you are gonna spit in our face than screw you we are going home) and lock up our borders with that extra firepower. And guess what make it much MUCH MUCH harder to get in our borders and if you are caught illegally it's off to a holding cell to rot in while we wait for a boat to fill up and you'll be floated off to Cuba. That should keep sane people out, for the European Leftists who would flock over here for that opportunity we'll just set you up camp at W's ranch. While here, if you are a Muslim practice your religion away but get used to some serous scrutiny/boot out of the country if anyone you are associated with is directly or indirectly involved with an attack. (Same goes for any religiously based attack as well, Terrorists do come in all flavors).

Lastly if you decide to travel abroad you are on your own. Just like those morons who got caught by Iran or the dummies who were caught in North Korea. Why take the chance? And if you do.. just like if I jump out of an airplane without a chute, it's your mess you figure out how to get out of it.

i was listening to a radio show and the guy was talking about how most of America suffers whenever there is a failed attempt at blowing up a plane.

We react by putting more airline security procedures on millions Americans because of failed attempts by a handfull of whackos. millions of Americans suffer because of political correctness. This has to tip the scales in favor of terrorists.

giving them the right to legal counsel in this country, is a win for them...

It's absolutely pathetic

I'm not, but don't worry about it.

I never worry.

But FYI, the ROEs have changed since we now live in Obanastan.

We were paralyzed by red tape, beaten by our own team.

This same mentality is evident in McChrystal’s tactical directive that essentially promulgates new rules of engagement under a single signature. The rules as they stood were restrictive enough, and if McChrystal had wanted to calibrate his reports a closed door meeting would have been the best option. Instead, publishing the new rules has opened up new space for the insurgents according to the Pentagon.

Maybe you don't understand promulgate???

You need to get off Silligan's Island once in a while. :)

I would agree, the terrorists are winning mainly because we are not fighting back. They are at war with us but we are not at war with them.

Our problem with all of this is we are always on defense instead of being on offense. We always react to what the terrorists are doing, they are always a step ahead of the U.S.
And then the authorities put these idiotic policies in place that make it a pain to travel and are not very effective.

I dunno, it's starting to look like Obama's gonna open up a can of whoop ass on Yemen.

And can sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan - where the people who actually attacked us on 9/11 live - be considered being on defense rather than offense?

None of the people who attacked us on 9/11 lived in Afghanistan.

Obama is opening a can of whoop ass on America.

I know the tribal code, the code is you are not a man if you can't retaliate for any harm done to your family anywhere in the world.

And we have a joke for a homelamd security secreteary who says we should watch our own homecoming military personel as being potential domestic terrorist threats.

I ask you, how isnane can it get??

Our military is not immune to the propaganda of terrorist organizations.

There are numerous Muslim Americans like Nidal Malik Hisan who might be swayed by the bastardized interpretation of the Koran taught by Al Qaeda, Hamas, or other terrorist organizations.

It's probably not a bad idea to keep an eye on veterans returning from the front lines.

Please note I also used the present tense: they live in Afghanistan, and have done so during the Iraq fiasco our previous President led us blindly into.

Calling this a "War on Terror" is part of the problem. How you declare war on a tactic or ideology is beyond me...to say nothing of the fact that it is rooted in theology and socio-political-economic foundations....something of which the military isn't ideally suited for combating. It's like declaring war on facism, or communism and expecting major military operations and combat movements to solve it. I mean, the Cold War was won primarily on the economic front, not the military.

The U.S. military, for all its capabilities, just isn't suited for this. You can kill all the terrorists you want, but you will never kill them all and it only takes one to detonate a nuclear device in Times Square. If we really want to combat terrorism, you have to look at what is causing it and attack that.

Our problem is we are fighting a fire we can't beat instead of addressing what causes and feeds the fire.

Terry Nichols learned his bomb making skills in the Philipines from muslim terrorists and make hundreds of phone calls there leading up to the OKC federal building bombing and they were assisted by Iraqi intelligence operatives. Most of that never came out because Reno and Holder killed the FBI investigation.

It's nuts to have a muslim psychiatrist counseling our troops to begin with and there is nothing bastardized about the koran as taught by al-Qaeda, Hamas et al.

All you have to do is throroughly study islamic writings to find that all they teach is right out of muslim 'holy' books.

BTW, we have fared better in Iraq than in Afghanistan where there is no end in sight.

Obama’s Rules Of Engagement In Afghanistan Costing Our Troops Lives.

The new ROE should have been dealt with as a classified memorandum of encouragement and understanding to consider holistic consequences of actions rather than a change to formal rules by which our Marines and Soldiers are prosecuted by courts. Yet the damage has been and continues to be done by poor decisions at the highest levels of leadership.

So al-Qaeda moves it's main training ground to Yemen now (present tense,) so do we send in troops???

Will we end up with troops in all 57 (or obama's 58 count, counting America,) countries under the thumb of islamic sharia law???

great point... al qaeda knows that as long as they are a moving target, the US has no means of making a significant strike against them... for example, after a nuke in NYC...

It's nuts to have a muslim psychiatrist counseling our troops to begin with and there is nothing bastardized about the koran as taught by al-Qaeda, Hamas et al.

And the author's inherent biases come boiling to the surface...

1.) If you are seriously advocating barring someone a position based strictly on general religious affiliation, then you're no better than the extremist nutcases who live in caves and want to murder all the infidels.

2.) Al-Qaeda, Hamas, etc., do teach a bastardized, corrupted interpretation of the Koran that the majority of Muslims rationally reject out of hand, just like rational Christians reject the teachings of Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church and the Ku Klux Klan (both purportedly "Christian" organizations).

You can take any religion's sacred text(s) and pervert them to support violence and hatred. How many doctors have been murdered by self-avowed Christians? But we certainly don't consider Christianity a religion that advocates murder. A rational person looks beyond a zealot's idiocy to judge an ideology on its merits, not by the actions of the craziest 10% of its followers.

1. I'm sure I would be accepted as an honored guest in their stinking cave, I'm also sure I could receive the death penalty for carrying a Bible into Saudi Arabia.

Your math sucks, anyone ever tell you that to your face??

2. Everything Al-Qaeda teaches comes straight from the Koran and is echoled by heads of states in Iran, Libya, Algeria, Turkey and lots of other places.

When you say 'bastardized islamic teachings', perhaps you refer to the teachings of 'the nation of islam' as espoused by Barry's swell friend Loui Farrakhan??

(I wasn't aware the KKK was a Christian organization, what do you have to support that conjecture?)

A rational person looks beyond what is considered to be politically correctness and studies the facts and the history behind those facts, something of which you are evidently incapable.

Your intent doesn't float, it sinks like a rock to the bottom of the pot.

Barring someone from a postition that is so senstive as to involve national security should be decided of the trustworthiness of that individual and just who his/her associates are.

Something you evidently don't understand about islam;

The early part of the koran was written from a point of weakness in Mecca, it is fairly benign because the followers of Muhammed were few and not in a position to dictate.

Later after great success in Medina, more was added to the koran and it is militant to the point of fanatical savagery and led to huge military successes stretching from the Iberian penensula to India in the first century of islamic expansionism.

As a matter of fact the move to Medina has been traditionalized as a way to further islam around the world and is the main motivation of islamic immigration to Europe and the Americas.

There are certain islamic rules in effect when migration is the modus opporandi, one of the foremost is the rule of taqqiya that allows, even demands that muslims misrepresent themselves in order to gain the trust of the infidel.

Some points on the topic:

SHEIKH TO US MUSLIMS: ACT FRIENDLY, THEN KILL.

Muslim killer camps increase in America, particularly in the northeast. Muslims boast they are the largest group in the U.S.

Muslim Gang-Rapes Frighten Public.

Gang rape is popular throughout Europe. Muslims consider females not garbed from head to toe as inviting rapists to attack them. Therefore, these women are labeled as “sluts” and consequently regarded as open season victims.

Devout Muslims do not consider these raping males as committing any crime; therefore, they in fact are praised as doing what non-Muslim women bait them to do.

Now in Canada, that same insanity is working for Islamic devotees.

Al-Qaeda to Avenge Taliban Chief's Death 'Inside US'.

The attacker, a 36-year-old Jordanian doctor, arrested more than a year ago by Jordanian intelligence, was believed to have been reformed, and sent off to Afghanistan and Pakistan to infiltrate al- Qaeda.

Yemen is becoming a leading al-Qaeda haven.

The US embassy is now temporarily closed. It is not clear when the UK or US embassies would reopen. Prior to the Detroit bombing incident, the US mission in Sanaa was the target of an al-Qaeda attack in September 2008, in which 19 people died, including a young American woman.
