Are we “set” on the OL?

I think our O-line will be better. Going to a pro style offense will help. Now these guys will get some coaching.

Starting OL could look like this...

LT Smith
LG Richmond
C Locklear
RG R. Johnson
RT J. Johnson

Backups...

OT Brooks
OT Tatum
OG Colbert
OG/T Niehuis
OG Lane

R. Johnso can also be moved to Center.

I didn't see Carvin on here but I can see him as a possible day 1 starter or being one at some point early in the year.We gotta get bigger and less soft on the OLine. Carvin would be a big man to team up with Smith, Richmond and Ryan Johnson and Locklear. Those are our 300+ LB guys and Calvert is the other 300LB guy. Those 270-280 OLine guys are gonna be hard to be a physical SEC OLine with. But would imagine we see some guys add more weight and get a lot stronger. J.Johnson is being brought in to play and hopefully he can get up between 290-300. He's got the height and frame to add it. Hopefully we can add a grad transfer, JUCO or atleast 1 more close to ready to play Olineman. I don't want him here if he doesn't want to be but still hate we lost out on Mays. He would start day 1.

This OL haul for 2018, as it stands right now, is extremely weak and underwhelming. It might be weaker than any Butch OL class. Unfortunately with the early signing period and the playoffs, Pruitt fell behind. We need to hope for a flip or two before NSD.

With what we have signed and committed so far? Looks like CJP is targeting defense and WR. How comfortable are we as fans with that?

You can only take so many. He's already signed 4 and is bringing an OT from GA in for a visit.

Half of that signing class (the underwhelming half) was all Butch

I know. The fact is its a very weak OL haul. Lane and Antonutti? Both guys dont have the look of SEC OL. Considering how bad our OL has been, we really needed some more help. Like I said, maybe there is a couple of flips before NSD.

I even think the JUCO class this year, overall, was kind of weak.

Adding one more juco guy would make me feel a lot better about this class.

The 2 JP got are both *4 on 247 either by them or composite. Lane is a 3* but GA, Wisc, VA Tech and Ga Tech also offered him and they all are heavy run teams who have good Olines's every year.Antonutti had an LSU offer too. He is really the one I scratch my head about. He's only 260 and will be a while before he's even ready to compete for a job. Losing Mays did hurt but he can take his a$$ to GA. We need to add 1 more who is atleast fairly close to being able to contribute. But Johnson and Carvin should both see plenty of playing time this year.

From a numbers-alone look, I would say no. Not sure if Pruitt would agree but it seems to me like any competitive SEC team today needs about 12-15 O linemen...same for D linemen. Ideally, you would play/rotate 8-10 and develop the others.

But that may be unrealistic, as it would mean that almost a third of your roster would be big nasties. I haven't taken the time to count all the linemen on SEC teams and average them up. And I won't.

I think realistically you want to be at least 3 deep at every position. Ideally you want 15 OL.

Well they should be better than the Matadors that we had last season (except Trey Smith and Robertson when healthy).

7-10 guys who are average to starter.
I think we have that.

The most important thing is for a QB to emerge.

Our offense will rely heavily on freshman skill players.

Banks and Taylor are both guys that will touch the ball 30-50 times next year.

I don't think we have 7-10 average guys right now on the o line. Without Hall, Jones, and Boulware we only have 3 I feel good about. Richmond, Smith, Tatum

Lots of work to do but we’ve got some real good players that need some real good coaching. I’d be surprised if we didn’t pick up some more recruits.

You need more than that, especially at a position as physically demanding as OL. It's not like the NFL, where if your starting RT has a season ending injury you can bring in a free agent.

We had more than 10 guys out on the oline by the end of the season
