I just want general opinions. Tennessee has had 10x more success in basketball the past 10 years as the football team. As it seems the football team is declining, the basketball team is rising. All these 5* star basketball kids are interested and we are getting them. In 2 years, It may look something like-

C- Kenny Hall?
F- Tobias Harris
G- Kevin Ware
G- Scotty Hopson
G- Mcrae/Golden/Tatum

Just my general thoughts. Discuss :hi:

I think basketball is defintely on the rise, or has been for sometime..

I think with all the noterity that Basketball is getting you could say they were close...

But whereas basketball IMO has it's spotlight for 4-5 months, Tennessee football is on topic 12 months of the year just because of the history and fan following..

I don't think I answered your question, just a ramble..

From a fan standpoint IDK if there will ever be more interest in basketball, but success wise we've been much better lately at basketball as you said.

I would love to be a traditional power in both sports. I think we'll be back on top of football if we give Dooley some time and patience. The ballervols aren't going anywhere though.

I think it was Dick Vitale that said "Bruce Pearl has awoken a sleeping giant at UT, watch out nation". Or something to that effect.

It may be as close at it ever has been, but Tennessee will always be a football school. Now we could become a football and basketball school!

Well - I suppose we could eventually become a basketball school if we kept having these mediocre football seasons for the next 20 years and never truly competed with Bama and Florida again for SEC titles - regularly finishing between 5-7, 6-6, etc

We are better at basketball right now, but still a football school.

I don't think we're becoming a basketball school by any means, the success that the basketball team has had under Bruce makes it seem that way though because Bruce has won some East Division titles and what not...We're always going to be a football school though

Not yet, but we will if we continue for about 5 years at getting better and improving our accomplishments every year.

On a side note guys, keep up the hype for UT basketball even if we lose friday, the team has done a wonderful job this year.

I think UT will always be a football school regardless of wins or loses in either program. I think what someone else said, we're a basketball school during the basketball season and a football school all year.

Florida won back to to back national championships, and their fans are already becoming apathetic about basketball again. Football is and will always be king in the south.

Yes and we owe our thanks to Bruce Pearl for getting it going in the right direction.

Check the traffic of this board when football season starts up compared to right now. We're a football school and always will be.

We haven't even been past the Sweet 16, which makes this really laughable. There's no reason both can't be top programs though.

I don't think UT will ever be a basketball school. It's more exciting now but to many it just keeps their attention between the football season and spring practice.

I see it this way. As awesome as ky is at basketball, I wouldn't trade places.

But I love what Bruce is doing to bring up the basketball program. Wish he had been there when I was in school (93-97).

Hoping we excel at both sports. If coach Dooley shines as I expect him to do, if women's bball keeps kicking buttock, and if pearl keeps the upward trajectory, the next few years will be a true golden era in UT sports.

Football has been king on The Hill since 1891, that's not going to change because of a couple Sweet 16's and that's not a shot at Pearl.

Our school rakes in the revenue with football not basketball. So we are not a bball school and doubt we will ever be one. Too much football history.

We have six national titles in football.

We have zero national titles in basketball.

...

We have eight national titles in women's basketball.

Ergo, we are the nation's premier women's basketball school.
