Are we becoming a Basketball School?

We have six national titles in football.

We have zero national titles in basketball.

...

We have eight national titles in women's basketball.

Ergo, we are the nation's premier women's basketball school.

that's something to brag about...

As much as I hate Geno Auriema(sp?), UCONN has taken over as the nation's premier women's basketball program. Right now, no one else is remotely close. These last two teams of theirs are better than ANY Lady Vol teams of the past.

Florida won back to to back national championships, and their fans are already becoming apathetic about basketball again. Football is and will always be king in the south.

Florida then proceeded to continue to dominate in football and win the National title in football yet again - quite the opposite of what our football team has done.

Is our basketball team more successful then our football team at this current moment? Yes. Is this a basketball school? No.

If we continue with our current down-slide in football (which could very well happen due to recruiting grounds and up and coming programs/more parody - we may never get back to the place we used to be) over the next 15-25 years - and basketball continues to improve - it will be a much different story. It's easy to say that now - we've had a 10 win season in football within the past few years and made the SECCG. If we go 6-6 or 7-6 on a consistent basis - good luck. Those football revenues will fall dramatically - we've already seen a significant impact in attendance this year and last year.

We say "Tennessee is and always will be a football school" because we assume we will be back - what if we don't "get back" to where we think we belong?

There are ups and downs in every program. It took Bama years to figure it out, but they're back. I'll say the majority of Tennessee fans like and care about football more than basketball, win or lose.

Not true. Pat has had teams just as good or better. That is my opinion just as you have your opinion.

I'd also say the majority of any fanbase (who will fill up Neyland to capacity) is consistent of most fair weather fans - rather than hardcore or committed ones (like the ones that post on here).
