Are we falling behind in recruiting?

Well this class is not going to look attractive to most because we have limited scholarships (we used a whole last year because we got hot late), aaand we are recruiting mainly linemen this year because our skilled positions are basically set for the next 2 or 3 years, but our d and o-lines are not. We are going to fill those spots for sure because Fulmer is great at pulling recruits in needy positions, while on the other hand a bunch of linemen typically don't make a highly rated class.

Yeah i know we really don't need that many skill players. I'm hoping we can get Wilks and a few others but I am mostly concerned about o-lineman. There is the big three from TN ( Jones, Bailey, and Spurlock) plus a couple of other out of state guys I have been following closely. I'm not really that concerned with where we are ranked, mostly just with getting our big needs.

Yeah, i just wanna land some stud lineman.. We need a huge DT in this class.. and some more DE's wouldn't hurt.. even though we have a lot of young athletic talent at DE.. but we need a stud at DT..
and we especially need some OL with some good work ethics.. i would love to get some 4 star OL-men.. since there arent many 5 star OL..

we are taking more lower ranking type players this year. We did start slow last year too though. I'm not too worried.

Visiting the recruiting sites I have noticed how some schools have double digit verbals already, and a lot of the recruits that have verbaled are 4 and 5 star guys. I am not talking about second tier schools, I am talking about USC, Texas and other top tier teams. Why are we not on pace with them or is it normal for us to wait until the season to start picking up commitments? This is the first year that I am following recruiting so any insight into the recruiting philosophy would be great.

Texas - and how many of those commits are from the state of Texas? You know where 98 out 100 kids strat dreaming of playing for the Longhorns at birth, enough said.

USC is the pet school right now and has everything West of the Rockies as their own personal playground and especially California.

This is typical UT recruiting especially since UT has to recruit nationally and they recruit top players add to the fact they are recruit specific needs it could take longer to see the commitments come.

we could have used up alot of scholarships and can't really get the good recruits due to the amount of excellent ones we got this year.

Sykes wasn't worth a scholarship to me. His frame is incredible, but he never really did anything in high school to warrant such attention. I sincerely hope he works out and ends up going pro, but my doubts are in place already.

Offers from LSU, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Alabama. I'll trust their judgment.

He is the real deal. He was a 4 star player and earned every bit of it. His stats dropped alot when Warren left but can you really blame a team for running away from him. When my team played them he was the only player we had to change the protecting and blocking scheme some to compensate for him.

Not only that, but he had a messed up arm during his SR year. The dude is worth a scholly for sure.
