Are we gonna do this this year?

Thought I would never get my head out of my butt, but I have to say...sometimes Gator fans on VN really add a lot to discussion.

Risk vs reward??? Getting your QB killed for 5 yards??? Maybe that's why 99.9℅ of the other teams in college football don't do this.... :)

More teams do it than you'd think.

This is one of those plays that is a nice idea in theory, but then when you actually run it in game and see your QB get killed by 4 free rushers and you realize that it's really a terrible idea.

The only good play I've ever seen off of this is a throwback RB screen with all 5 lineman leading the way for him after the pass rushers run by.

I remember that play clearly. It was an offsides that didn't get called.

I'm surprised more people don't get the point of this. I agree that if the offsides isn't called that this can go horribly awry, but it's really not that bad of an idea. If the defense jumps and freezes you may get a play downfield.

This was a horrible miss by the refs. I don't know how much five yards would have helped us at that point, but it made this play look much, much worse than it was.

I still don't get why the line wouldn't move. Offsides does not always mean a stoppage in play. The QB is going to get destroyed almost every time.

Take the free play, go deep, and keep the QB's organs in place.

If the oline doesn't move, that's a clue for the refs. Regardless of the outcome of the play, there is an immediate shift of focus to offensive line play.

I understand that it is dangerous for the QB, but he should have repped this drill several times and should understand the "roll out and throw" drill when this happens. Throw it up for your wide outs and if they catch it, free yards. If they don't, free play +5 yards.

Regardless, that is excellent discipline shown by the offensive line.

They will call it regardless. Just change the snap count like a normal team.

Weird how we don't see that nonsense on Sundays.

It's dumb, and we have seen the repercussions of the worst that can happen.

They didn't call it that time even though it was blatantly obvious.

So, in other words, putting our QB on a tee didn't get us a flipping five yard penalty?

Even if it did, wouldn't have been worth it.

The line ref does not care if our line jumps, stays, or breaks out in a game of duck duck goose. They are looking right down the line to see if they crossed it. They will miss it or get it.

Standing there and doing nothing only makes the free play useless since there is no time to throw, and puts a bullseye on the QB.

The offside wasn't called neither was the left hook to the qb head. Imagine that.
