NCAA Women's Title Game ratings were down 4.1 percent from last year and 33.6 percent from two years ago.

Chatelain: UConn Women May Be Great, But Nobody Is Watching « CBS New York

The article brings up a lot of good points people have been making. Growing ratings and building fan bases are signs that something is good for a sport. No one is blaming Geno, it's just most sport fans won't watch title games with no drama. Up to the other coaches around the country to find a way to compete or the game really won't grow at all. Judging by the recent trend, it will only lose fans.

I think this is a false narrative - choose an opponent from a small market with one of the smallest fanbase followings in the history of FF teams (they average 500 or something fans per home game) and you are probably going to struggle in national ratings. MLB is always deathly afraid of two small market teams getting into a world series and pray for Yankees/Dodgers.
Certainly the fact that not one of the other powerhouse teams made it to the FF hurt both the odds of an upset and the ratings.

And we can all relax - the 'competitiveness' in the women's games just got a lot higher Wednesday morning.

We all try to make women's college basketball a complex sport when in reality, if you have the best player in the country ... most of the time you win. Geno admitted this when he talked about Diana, Maya and Stewart. It was the same for Pat with Holdslaw and Parker.

Let's see what Geno does next year when he won't have the best player in the country (hopefully ... but I won't be surprised if one of his ladies becomes Super Woman during the season).

Let's hope Harris can become the enforcer for the Lady Vols, Diamond relaxes and gets her groove back, Te'a matures, Mercedes improves her strength and toughness and someone, anyone, develops into a go-to shooter (calling Dunbar). Next year should be the season UConn falls. But watch out for ND, Baylor and Ohio State and a few Pac 12 teams.

It's vital Holly replaces Kyra with a fresh, offensive-minded, fundamentally strict assistant.

Go Lady Vols!

On its face it appears to be sound logic. How would the writer explain the men's championship game being down 37% in viewers?

Because for the first time the game was on TBS, instead of CBS....

That's the point I was (unsuccessfully) trying to make. There may be a lot of reasons why viewership is down on a particular game. It isn't necessarily because interest in the men's or women's game is down.

Didn't the women play on ESPN?
Monday I watched Better Call Saul and tuned in after.
