Are You Vols Drinking the Saban Koolaid?

I stirred the sugar, water, and KoolAid mix together. I called it the day Saban signed. And it isn't JUST because of Saban.

If I'm wrong, please please please pull up the posts I've made on this and embarrass me.

He has not done enough yet, IMO, to warrant his outsized reputation. He had a decent-to-good run at MSU, and then it's not like he immediately built a dynasty at LSU. Good coach? Sure. "Genius," and worth $4m per year? Not yet.

I thought they'd be poised to win 9+ games in 2007 even before they fired Shula, and obviously trading him for Saban isn't going to hurt. I'd be very surprised if Alabama doesn't have a good season this fall.

Yes yes yes yes
I like you more and more with every post.

The 2006 Alabama squad had good, but YOUNG talent, and no depth on the OL due to greyshirting and what not.

So, they were on the track for 8-9 wins in 2007 with a very average coach. Saban adds a win, or 2, or more. Plus, the talent will develop exponentially under Saban and Staff.

Combine it with the -2 CGVR from 2006, as well as Alabama being the 4th best team in the SEC in CAPP, and you have a season destined for a huge turnaround.

I don't buy the Saban talk and never have. I saw him in the Big Ten with Michigan State and don't remember ever being impressed (entertained, yes, but beating a #1 Ohio State team in Columbus will do that). What he did at LSU as far as a title in 2003 was a product of a whole lot of neutral to favorable factors.

Has any part of Saban's career truly been a result of him finding a way to go far above and beyond what would otherwise be expected? I haven't seen it and I don't think I ever will.

I definitely agree that Bama will have it turned around. I really don't see Auburn or Arky having more than an outside shot at the west. It will come down to LSU and Bama. LSU still dwarfs every team in the SEC(except for UF) in talent.

Possibly, but Bama is 1.2 in CSIMU which doesn't bode well for them.

Unfortunately I think you are right. That game in Tuscaloosa is going to be a hornet's nest.

of that, there is little doubt. they will be all hopped up for that game i'm sure.

and that's a game that i just don't think CPF can afford to lose.......the opponent, the coach........losing that game this year would hurt more than usual.

I hadn't really thought about it, but you're right. Let us be pessimistic and say that it's possible Fulmer could go into that game having lost to both Meyer and Richt; if he were to lose that one to Saban, too, the sharks would really start circling.

and you still have Spurrier left on the schedule...

this year could go one of two ways..........it presents itself to be a crowning acheivment that makes a statement to the rest of the league, country and fans that, "uno momento, i'm not near as bad as many of you think" or it could serve as validation of what many already think.

but hey, no pressure. just win the SEC, and all is fine.

It certainly has that feel of a make-or-break type year for Fulmer, doesn't it? Glory or ignominy; which will it be? Which of course means we'll probably go 9-4 again and be right back here saying the same thing next year.

lol.......i hear ya.
though i can see 10 wins on this schedule where i only saw 9 last year.........

i guess i've flip flopped on the upcoming schedule since the end of the season.......in reality, this year's schedule, really isn't all that bad. the only game that i truly think we should lose simply because the other team is better is FL. GA, SC, Bama, Cal at this point are all games i'd say we are as capable of winning as losing. all the others are W's.......so we lose to one of the afformentioned teams and FL...10-2.

and for all those that aren't sold on FL, please give it a rest, i know where you stand and why, no reason to start that up again.........it's JMO.....
