Aren't we lucky ...

Please, the fans made us look silly. There isn't even enough solid information out there as to all the proceedings. Hart was quiet the whole time and we got turned down by Strong which is nothing to be ashamed of. He even tried to appease the ludicrous fans who thought we had a chance with Gruden.

Find someone else to complain about. Hart's hire is looking pretty damn good so far. It's not his fault the fanbase is delusional, and it's not his job to babysit us.

I agree. Gruden to UT was never a reality. The Charlie strong situation was difficult for him because he turned down other schools like auburn too. Hart could've easily made a bad hire at that point but he didnt.

I wasn't panicked, I feel like Hart was attempting to serve multiple masters because of a misguided sense of entitlement on the part of both booster and fans, and when it was all said and done made a spectacular hire.

Hohenfelsvol, I'm sorry but you are wrong on this one. We were turned down by three coaches, and one of them had ample reason to turn us down after we failed to pull the trigger on hiring him before. The idea that Strong would have loyalty to Louisville after spending years waiting for someone to give him a chance actually makes a lot of sense. Gruden was never going to college. A bunch of overzealous reporters and fans fed into a manic hysteria that consumed multiple fanbases, but ours in particular. The Gundy rumors were fed by a series of reports that he was having battles with administration and boosters that were ultimately unconfirmed.

Hart's biggest issue was that he had a very public search with way too many people talking about who was saying what without any real information getting out there. He didn't say much, so people were ready to listen to a ballboy if they thought he might have some information. The nonsensical reports flying around made every single person mentioned release a public statement to counter the rumors, making the process more public than any other search in the country. This may mean Hart needs to run a tighter ship, but it doesn't mean the search was botched.

Dave Hart was lucky that this man was still available, while he was drooling over Charlie Strong (the man bUTch is 2 - 1 against) CBJ waited patiently.

Butch turned down numerous offers before accepting his dream job and he deserves our support until he proves otherwise. So far, so good. :hi:

Guess we'll just have to disagree. All media outlets shared that opinion as do I.

Yea well all media outlets are out to make controversy and fodder, talking about these strings of coaching rejections we're getting when the one true rejection we got was from Charlie Strong. Blind hatred of Hart because of what the media and fans ran away with is unreasonable.

that Dave Hart knew his place and did what he was told, while the boosters were hiring Jon Gruden, instead of a real college FB coach like Butch Jones.

Jon Gruden was never coming here. Haslam wasn't/didn't chase him. My source is better than all those that said he was a done deal.....one guy removed from Mr. Haslam. The boosters were chasing CS and BJ from day 1.

Flame away, I don't care.

Not blind in my opinion. We'll just have to disagree.

Media outlets are businesses- businesses that make money by creating controversy to increase readership. End of story.

To take anything they put up directly as truth, especially an opinion piece, shows an astounding lack of intelligence.

Profit motive drives the free enterprise system, you gotta take the good with the bad, unfortunately . :loco:

I have no problem with what they do.

What I have problems with are people taking stories they post as gospel without any internal process to vet out what's true and what's not. It's not just in sports, it's everywhere.

The boosters were chasing CS and BJ from day 1.

This seems pretty absurd, given that Butch Jones was interviewing with other schools while Dave Hart was interviewing multiple other candidates and actually making an offer to Charlie Strong. Seems like complete revisionist history to say that boosters were after Butch Jones from day 1. If that was the case, why not interview him during the first set of interviews? But I guess Dave Hart just got lucky after Charlie Strong turned him down that, hey look, Butch Jones is available and the boosters were chasing him from day 1 too! Yeah, that's believable.

I knew Gruden wasn't coming too, anyone with common sense knew. But that didn't stop the rumor mongers and clowns from spreading rumor after rumor. I found the whole thing funny personally.

I quit finding it funny pretty quick.

I was more embarrassed that the outraged buffoons represented UT.

I said CS AND BJ. If you remember, the hire went down very quickly after they played each other. I am only saying what I was told by a friend that works directly for Mr. Haslam. Like I said, flame away. Point here is that JG was NEVER in the boosters sights, that was smoke and mirrors created by a bunch of folks that got their dreams ahead of their reality.
