A few people on VN think that "speaking your mind" is a sign of independent thought and/or maturity (primarily b/c their parents overdosed them on self-esteem leading to a national plague called defiance).
While I appreciate differing opinions (and more often than not welcome them), it is the method/spirit behind the communication that is most often important. It's the "way" someone says what they say - or the underlying meaning.
In AF's case, its not just the spirit, but also what he says. He does it to glean attention. As some of us said yesterday, he's an "attention whore". I'm sorry that being the toast of Houston, an NFL star, routinely touted on E$PN, etc. isn't enough. Like sooooo many in our culture, it leaves him hungrier for more. He. Wants. More. Attention.
Pathetic.
I'm thinking this is driven more by those who still believe in the purity of college Athletics. Things like the taco story don't fit that belief
I agree with this. I am under the impression that a high percentage (maybe not 90%, but like 55-60%) receive "improper benefits" at least once. At higher profile sports schools, I assume that the percentage is higher. I see no reason to think that Arian didn't have certain things provided for him. I feel like Arian said the things he said about tacos, etc. to help future athletes get what many people believe is deserved.
Agree. The taco thing was said regarding a national conversation about student athlete reimbursement. I have no problem when people weigh in with facts and examples. You'll notice that UT suffered no punishment by what he said. He made sure that wouldn't happen.
Also, what is all this banned from practice stuff? People have some interesting imaginations.
The dude gave a lot to the team while he was here, in situations that most of us don't have to endure, and even if he talks more than I do I will respect him for that.
That's how I feel. I also think he got the rawest raw deal of all time with his last year here. If he got the playing time he deserved, he'd have UT's yardage record and would have been drafted. Also he'd probably be more pleased with regards to UT.
Wasn't he injured a good portion of his senior year? He passed on a 2nd round draft grade and fell to undrafted free agent but some fans could never look past a couple of untimely fumbles.
I thought conventional wisdom was that he could have played through the majority of the time he missed, but Fulmer held him out. It was 7 years ago so my memory is hazy on the smaller details lol. And he was, by and large, a very reliable back. He had a few that happened at bad times, but his amount of fumbles compared to the amount of carries he had was pretty minimal.
How is hiding something for years and then revealing it in an interview (you know - when people ask you questions about youself) attention whoring?
People are so transparent but do a really good job of fooling themselves. You are only saying this because you don't like the message.
