Arion Carter details why he chose Tn over Alabama

Just curious, he wants to play early and Banks will be here next year. Is it hard to switch from MLB or OLB? I think he needs to be in ASAP if he delivers the goods.

I have said repeatedly that I am done with the Jeremy Banks era at Tennessee. If he is still here next year, Jeremy do yourself a favor and approach life and carry yourself in public interviews like this young man.

Arion Carter
Tennessee's most recent recruiting pickup, a massive one at that, is set to arrive on campus Thursday as well. Carter just chose the Vols on Wednesday evening, and he completes a loaded trio of linebackers for the class. He gets an immediate jump on his career on Rocky Top.

"Hey Arion, the kitchen table is nice but, trust me, let's do this interview on your bed."
That was odd actually but I think they wanted all of the offers, notes and information he had up on his wall as a backdrop. Why do I hear his mother in the background… “I told him to make his bed before he left the house this morning….” GBO

Biggest difference I saw when my kid was in at LB is that MLB is more run and maybe QB spy focused, and OLB has to pick up quick reads on run vs droping in coverage. Most slants will drop behind the MLB so your OLB's should be watching for those, as with thoday's QB's the MLB has to hold middle gaps for hte QB run threat. I wouldn't say one position processes more or less info in the same amount of time, but your OLB's will typically be a little fleeter on foot to pick up pass coverage maybe. My kid seemed to hold the middle more, verses when he was outside he kinda had a foot position that would facilitate a drop back as well as committing to hold the edge on a run at a split second pace. But, that's just my knowledge of observation. I'm sure there's far more in it than that.

A logical reason to pick UT over UA is that the state school you graduate from is probably the state where you’ll live and get a job in. Not in every case, but I bet the data would back that claim up. TN vs AL is a no brainer, in my mind. Alabama sucks. If I never go there again in my life, I’d be just fine. The only reasons I would, would be to see Tennessee beat Alabama in T-Town or watch the BaseVols win in Hoover.

I figured he would go pro but he did drop off from last year. There was 4 games he didn't start this year so I almost thought he needed to come back. Maybe he can graduate.
Maybe too much tea to read, but I think something broke between he and the coaches. If he doesn't even practice for the bowl, it's basically fait accompli.

Why not do both? You can always go to med school later..
Plenty of examples throughout NFL history. I remember Robert Smith from Ohio State desiring that career path and changing his mind. Famously Billy Cannon won the Heisman at LSU, played pro ball and then graduated from the dental school at UT.
