Tennessee freshman linebacker Arion Carter is out for the season with a shoulder injury, Knox News confirmed Sunday. Carter, a former four-star prospect from Smyrna, missed the past two games after suffering the injury in UT’s 33-27 win over Kentucky on Oct. 28. He did not travel with the team for its 36-7 loss to Missouri on Saturday. Carter had carved out a role in UT’s linebacker rotation as an inexperienced but athletically gifted freshman. He had 17 tackles, one tackle-for-loss and one pass breakup in eight games.

When your defensive line gets pushed around like yesterday it does not matter who your linebackers are.

The same goes for our offensive line. Neither showed up yesterday,

Once the emotions of yesterday's game settle down, I think we will understand AC's absence played a huge roll in our defensive scheme and inability to be competitive against the ground game.
Not so sure. 17 tackles in 8 games at LB isn't exactly next level. I think the bigger issue is his development took a hit. If memory serves, his move to LB was fairly recent? The physical tools are certainly there, but learning the position and getting comfortable so you just react instead of think requires reps. He needed all the reps he could get this year.

The thing about him is as good as he is at linebacker, he would have a good chance at being our number one running back.

Not a great take. Front four played fine most of the game until they were completely exhausted. LBers couldn’t contain #7 or the QB when he decided to run on crucial downs.

Can he get a redshirt or did he play too many games?
Not sure what the rules are for medical redshirt versus just plain redshirt.

I know plain redshirt is no more than 4 games in a limited capacity (i.e. the player can't play the entire game of any of those four).

I'm not sure what medical shirt rules are, or is it dependent on a ruling by the NCAA?
