Arizona anti-immigrant law goes down, sort of

NO administration has been able to do it. Its way too expensive and such a small return on whatever investment is made. So easy to circumvent.

then why not let the states bear some of the burden if they're willing to do so?

your endless hyperbole about "racism" notwithstanding, of course

A fence isnt "Shovel Ready" enough?

Why did the Obama Admin do this?

Homeland Security suspends immigration agreements with Arizona police - Washington Times

The Obama administration said Monday it is suspending existing agreements with Arizona police over enforcement of federal immigration laws, and said it has issued a directive telling federal authorities to decline many of the calls reporting illegal immigrants that the Homeland Security Department may get from Arizona police.

Administration officials, speaking on condition they not be named, told reporters they expect to see an increase in the number of calls they get from Arizona police — but that won’t change President Obama’s decision to limit whom the government actually tries to detain and deport.

“We will not be issuing detainers on individuals unless they clearly meet our defined priorities,” one official said in a telephone briefing.

This is total BS

In case some of you haven't noticed, illegal immigration is way down from where it was five years ago. But keep carrying on about your so-called crisis if it makes you feel better.

and that coincides with the downturn in the US economy, doesn't it?

Wow I just learned that AZ's law was written to allow Hispanics to be gunned down in the desert. Thanks to the court for saving us from that

we've got all these fancy drones now and a president who isn't afraid to use them. why don't we just label the illegal immigrants enemy combatants?

2 birds, 1 stone. tough on the GWOT and deter illegal immigration

Way too expensive? And your a liberal Obama supporter?

Or not worth the worry because there are votes to be had? Funny you find a far right political angle in the federal law being carried out but dont see this.

This will be ignored because it doesn't fit the published excuse list.

It's almost like LG believes this was about good policy rather than vote buying.

Given there is little to no voter fraud,

and illegal aliens cannot vote,

how does non-enforcement of federal immigration laws help Obama get re-elected?

(Unless there are illegals voting, which would constitute voter fraud, which doesn't exist...)

Its not about that. It's about a state where it's citizens and landowners are being trampled by criminals while the federal govt not only says "the border is your problem" and we are going to do whatever possible to make it extra difficult for your state to protect itself

Meanwhile legal immigrants are standing in line, filling out the paperwork and doing all the work necessary to become a US citizen

they hate Jan Brewer too, because she is attempting to make the line even longer :)

I agree with all of that, but there is always a political reason for these policies and that reason is generally tied to staying in office.

would you vote for a guy that just had your brother, cousin, best friend, etc deported? Or would you rather vote for a guy basically opening the border and giving amnesty to a million illegal immigrants?

Are you referring to the new policy on people who immigrated as children ?

If so I'd say it could be both. I agree it was a political move. Said so earlier.

But that doesn't make it bad policy. Ask the newest GOP darling Rubio, or any of the half dozen GOP Hispanic politicians who have had the nerve to support some version of this. Ask Gov. Perry.

Romney is on record repeatedly championing the Arizona law, wanting to build a fence, etc. It's his own fault that, in appealing to the far right to get the nomination, he committed himself to the short end of the stick on this.

On the surface I know that is the idea, but I guess the point of my question is simply that these policy moves show there is a level of voter fraud at play and that we are all in a sort of denial about it.

Obama is winning because we're talking about everything EXCEPT the economy. I could really give a crap less about 1million more mouths to feed.

US Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Arizona could declare itself under invasion from Mexico, and file an appeal to the Supremes for a Writ of Mandamus to order the Obama administration to enforce the law.
