when you look back to last season Arkansas State played:

Auburn - 38-9
Mizzou - 41-19
-
Auburn had 468 yards to Arkie States 422
Mizzou had 495 to their 425
-
Tennessee 34-19
UT had 413 yards vs their 335
-
So we played a very similar game against Arkansas State as the two SEC finanlists . State is a very quick well coached team and they have a proven history for bringing their A game against top notch competition . Lets hope we can play the scrappy underdog role next week .

Wouldn't surprise me if they beat Miami next week and finish 10-2 or 9-3. They are a solid team

Doesn't matter what folks say on here....just matters what this team believes and what CBJ tells them to do and how to do it

Yes, and if you dig down deeper and look at the box scores of those two games you will see that Auburn led Arkansas State by only a 21 - 9 margin late in the third Quarter before pulling away with a couple of late touchdowns, and Missouri trailed 16-14 in the third quarter and led only 20-16 going into the Fourth Quarter. Even in the Fourth Quarter, Missouri led only 27-19 with 7:31 left to go in the game before scoring a couple of very late touchdowns. In sum, the Missouri Arkansas State game last year was much closer than the score indicated. In 2007 we only beat this team 48-27, and of course we went to the SECCG that year. The bottom line is that our failure to beat this team by 30 or 40 points does not mean that we are doomed to failure this season. I still believe this team will win 7 to 8 games this year and exceed most people's expectations. Along the way we are going to pull off an upset or two that will shock everyone. Go Vols!

These are great points are add even more validy to my original post . I think 7 wins is do-able . last season with far less talent and depth all around , virtually -0- QB play , we beat USCe , almost beat UGA , and played Vandy close.

Last year may not be a clear indicator of this year ...but it shapes my expectations. I expect us to be in some of these games that the negavols have us getting slaughtered in ....specifically the 3 I mentioned above .

To add more to your posts , I think Butch took his foot off the gas , ran the ball and worked the clock today , or we may have gotten some of those late scores too.

I believe both Ark St and USU are bowl teams. Ark st. Will be a 8-9 win team.

I think they would beat Vandy and Kentucky this year. I don't see a lot of impressive wins for SEC this weekend. USCe barely beat East Carolina. Bama, Auburn, UF played much worse teams than USU or ARK st. Miss State looked beatable.

We went totally Vanilla midway through 3rd quarter. We could have scored again, but we chose to run clock.

Rational perspective Op. We could use some more of that. Still there were some concerns today I hope Butch and co. address.

Looks like everyone will beat vandy this year.

Thanks for the props guys . I agree with what you say here DD4Me. O line play is inconsistent both in run blocking and pass blocking ...namely picking up blitzes stunts and stems . I think they will 'get it' later in the season ...but for now the coaches are going to have to cover it up ...like they have been with the quick hitting passes .

The D line is doing worlds better than last year but still not getting there with 3 and 4 man packages . I like to think that the coaches are holding back on the pressures until ...well next week . I think they will be a pretty good unit when the coaches put a full game plan in and manage the 'chess' game .

Hurd is still developing ...but the kid looked really good at times today and I think he will continue to develope week to week . Worley has been great so far ...but I think we'll see how he is under pressure next week .

I am not holding out hope for a win ...but I am wanting to see us compete.

Sun Belt Champions three years running…so they were actually a pretty good team. They may have been better then Utah State. I was unaware of their "success" before the game. Look at Nebraska and some othe schools today, like USCjr., it can happen to anyone, what you don't want in these games is a loss and injuries…well we avoided one...

I like that Butch has some teaching points this week. I think it motivates players more when you win ugly against a inferior opponent. Look what happened the next two games when we almost lost to South Alabama last year…

Where on earth did anyone come up with the notion that this was somehow a disappointment other than getting a couple of guys injured?
