Well, you know, I used to get my back up about people having opinions on sports teams that made no sense to me and seemed completely contrived based on fan loyalty.
But I've come to realize that opinons about sports are a multi-billion industry precisely because those of us that don't play them can only enjoy them by having something to say about "my" team being better than yours.
So I've tried recently to not be so antagonistic about it, more willing to let people have theior opinions, evne if they make no sense to me.
Of course, having "my" team get slaughtered in the conference championship makes it a little easier for me be humble about it right now. But who among hasn't had to suck it up and deal with a bad loss and just say, well, what are you gonna do?
Yeah, I know what you mean. I realize I'm on a UT board, and therefore understand that I'm a minority and for that reason I let comments slide that in other places I would not. I like being here, though some may not want me here. I will take my lumps when they come, just like anyone else. I will let UT fans say whatever the want about Kentucky. Talk about our coach, call us cheaters, whatever. Its your board, do as you wish.
The biggest problem is (and this even goes for the UK boards I belong to) is the unintelligent blabber that some people bring to a conversation.
I can make a logical unbiased post concerning UK or UT basketball, like " IMO, UT's defense was lacking on the perimeter, and its going to kill them if its not fixed."
Somehow that manages to get followed by a "Yea wel, we kickid your butts in football, enjoy it when u get sanctuns and we beat you by 50 this year."
Its irrational, its childish, and for lack of a better word, stupid. There is a difference between this and a debate. I give MHF a hard time on this site, but I don't have the guy on ignore. As much as I disgree with him, the guy at least tries to back some things up with stats and theories and conversation, instead of slinging mud like an idiot.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that does not mean everyone else has to see it. I have people on the ignore list for the very reasons mentioned above. Thats just life.
And I fully expect this post to followed by "Well then get the hell off this board and go back to Kentucky if you hate it so much, dumb ass troll."
Thats just another day in the life of message boards.
