A recruiting asst. coach is like a rabbateur, finding game and driving them from the forrest and bushes. Mixing metaphors, the head coach is the closer that brings the game—no pun intended—home. If the closer has trouble recruiting the right recruiter, then it's scapegoat for dinner.

We will probably never know if the issue was driving prospects from the brush, closing, or both.
