At least we're not as bad as.....

If they were actually interested in having a competitive and exciting tournament. IMO, of the teams with legitimate arguments for inclusion, only the "hottest" teams at selction time should be added.

Unfortunately UT would've been on the outside looking in, but it would be a much better tournament. As much as it pains me to say this (and it's excruciating), South Carolina would've given OSU a game and possibly beat them they way that QB of theirs has been playing..

Wouldn't that have been some sheeyut....
Nobody was going to beat OSU Saturday.

Ohio State was “on” but us being so “off” had a lot to do with it. And also that we were very easy to scheme against.
It was mainly them being on. If we're so easy to scheme against why didn't other teams do the same? Credit where credit is due, OSU planned and played exceptionally well.

If it's so easy a D1 staff wouldn't need more than a week.
The defense has solely relied on the DL dominating the past two years. They have not schemed anything up if the DL wasn’t dominant. The offense struggled for most of the season, so teams definitely didn’t have trouble scheming for them in a week.

We actually played our worst football with multiple weeks to scheme, so it’s funny that you would talk about what a D1 staff should be able to do with multiple weeks to plan.

Other side of the coin . . . it’s not a certainty that we’re better than any of those teams. In fact, 4-5 out of 6 of those teams would be favored against Tennessee on a neutral field. Unbalanced schedules . . . I’m happy we benefited from it this year. Other years it will screw us.

Those people were foolish to say that and shouted down anyone who pointed that out. Nico was only “hitting his stride” because we hit the easy part of the schedule, and he still didn’t look that good. We let Vandy jump up 14-0.
I really like the way Nico ran the ball this time when he left the pocket he showed toughness.* BUT* He will never be mistaken for a Mahomes/Baker/Burrows or any of those QBs that can escape and keep their head on a swivel or know where there target will be and hit them and make the DBs & LBs pay for leaving their man and rushing a scrambling QB he is just not there yet. Hopefully time and experience will get him there. In the meantime young SEC QBs Sellars USC & Lagway UF have passed him.

We wouldn’t have beaten any of those teams at their place. At a neutral site, we might win a couple. In Neyland, we obviously edged out Bama and Florida, and we could beat any of the others in a one game vacuum at Neyland, but if we played all 6 of those teams over the course of the season, we would have gone 4-4 at best in the SEC, more likely 3-5.

We were fortunate with the schedule this year.
So what was the W/L you had for the Vols starting this season?

8-4. Our defense was better than I thought it would be outside of the OSU game. Our offense was much worse than I thought it would be.

Overall the schedule was much easier than I expected it to be. I thought virtually every Power 5 team on our schedule but Vandy and Florida would be better than they wound up being.

I can see that. On paper I had us losing Georgia, Bama, Oklahoma.

Realistically I see 3 losses next year, obviously could go either way on that spectrum.

Our plan or lack thereof wasn't the point you raised though, it was that we're easy to scheme against. You play to your username very well, bravo.

It’s easy to scheme against a team that is going to rush 4 and play soft coverage. It’s also easy to scheme against a team that is going to hand it off up the middle or throw an 8 yard pass outside the number 80% of the time. Our plan is what makes us easy to scheme against…
