I, as a fan, have to stop expecting for this staff and group of players to make in-game adjustments. The officiating was atrocious, but the adjustment was never made to stop the damn hand checking 40 feet from the basket.

I've never liked Pearl, as most know. But his salesmanship helped to resurrect a program that desperately needed it. I just hope that whoever the next hire is, is a coach with significantly greater game management. And a house full of people all agreed tonight that that end is imminent. The program doesn't need to be sold to anyone anymore. This inability to adapt is causing too many inconsistencies.

you can't manage a game when every time they drive a foul is called. i'm amazed that no one fouled out by how many fouls were called, it seems they were in the bonous 8 or 9 minutes in the 2nd half.

You sure as hell can adapt by stopping the reaching.

Tonight it would've been tough. When the other team is shooting 82% and getting to the line on almost every possession, you have to pick your poison. But in general, this team is horrendous at adjusting to a game called tightly. I agree regarding your hopes for the next coach.

they game was only called tight on us, every drive there was a foul, it there wasn't a foul they made a layup.

we're not going to get a coach as good as pearl in getting the fans excited for the game. it's back to mediocre.

The excitement of the fans is directly correlated to success of the team. That and honesty and integrity, for some of us.

Other coaches can win here. I am getting sick and tired of this attitude that "Pearl took us to the Elite 8 and that's as good as it's gonna get, so if we lose him, we're doomed." Ridiculous. Winning occurred here before Pearl, and it will occur after he's gone. It may not happen overnight, because whoever coaches the 2011-2012 squad is going to face a depleted roster. But it will happen. Has it ever occurred to anyone that Pearl, even if he somehow survives the NCAA banhammer, is starting down the prospect of coaching a team next year that will be lucky to get a NIT bid?

I'd say the fan support this year has been pretty mediocre and unexciting. TBA has been stale for the most part.

If a coach wins, then the fan support and excitement will be there. A "salesman" for a coach is not needed.

I remember being at some exciting games when Green was half asleep on the sidelines. . .he did nothing to create excitement.

They shot 82% because we let them, other teams have had great nights too. The defense never adjusted, like usual.

Florida was a better team this year but Tennessee is their own worst enemy at times. Like the OP said the program doesn't need a salesman anymore they need a coach.

Please hand in your fan card after such a blasphemous post.

I didn't really pay attention to ur game as much as I wanted last night, but from seeing you all play 10 or so times this year, no offense, you hand check alot, not only with one, but with both hands. You all are very athletic so I know if you could be really good defenders if u wanted, but more often than not you settle for not putting forth a lil more effort and last night it caught up with you.

Not very smart, lazy are a few of them, coaching has pretty much sucked and the substitutions have been a joke. That pretty much sums up UT's season in one sentence.

For 6 years this team and program have fed off of Pearl's attiude. His demeanor was how the team played. Whether borderline arrogance, flustered, or us against everybody, the team has taken the persona of Pearl and played accordingly. That's why it was so fun to watch that first team and the team after "the incident" last year.

I can't help but think overall that it still holds true. He's flustered and looks like he's gone 12 rounds with late 80s Mike Tyson after everything. I think he sees the writing on the wall, knows he's lost this team, knows there is nothing he can do, and just plays are most talented players howing we can just out-talent other guys. His trump card, ability to motivate players, is gone, and he's not enough of a tactician to out-scheme other guys to make up for it.

The NCAA thing has killed this season and they haven't even laid out the punishment yet. Pearl has looked out of it at times and the team played that way most of the year.

When are you people going to realize that it is not that easy to find a good coach who can win consistently? See Arkansas, Kentucky, and Alabama (football).

than Pearl, IMO. The guy has charisma, and has put UT basketball on the map after more than 20 years in the wilderness. And while there have been struggles this year, he can coach--it's not just the charisma. He had us a few points away from the final four last year, dudes, which is unheard of for us. We are much more likely to slide backwards rather than go forward with a new hire. Which is why I want us to keep him. We'd be much better off taking our lumps from the NCAA and sticking with Pearl than dumping him. Those of you who think otherwise have appparently forgotten about a generation of really bad basketball teams...

I think that Pearl simply got too ambitious. He built the program, tasted success, almost got us to the Final Four, and he wants no doubt to win a title, which is why he broke rules. It's great to be ambitious, but you can't break rules and I think he has learned that. Our smartest move is to tough it and stick with the guy. And I'd like to see Hamilton and Co. make it clear to the NCAA that you can't slap Calhoun on the wrist and then come down hard on Pearl. In any case, if we sack Pearl we'll go back to being a nothing program again.

one or two bad years with a good coach than sack him and return to mediocrity. Winning occurred before Pearl? Yea, about 25 years before Pearl! And in between Ray Mears and Pearl we had, what, about six coaches--none of whom was any good. Devoe could coach but was a lousy recruiter, Green could recruit but was a TERRIBLE coach and the others were bad at both.
