AT&T vs Comcast for internet

Nobody is getting true fiber unless they've run an actual fiber cable directly to your house. Then they've only run fiber to the closest node.

The only real exception being Fios who I believe actually runs fiber to your home. Not available in Knoxville as far as I know.

Several companies run true fiber to the house.

Xfinity will offer 1gig internet in the next couple of months in Knoxville. Basically download a complete music album in 1 second.

I only wish this was an option here in Knoxville.

That's amazing but I wonder how much that'll cost you?

Im seeing $139.95 which is a great price IMO.

http://corporate.comcast.com/news-i...nfrastructure-chicago-area-trial-begins-today

Article from August 2016 when added to Chicago.

Comcast launched the Chicago area trial of a new Internet service today that delivers speeds up to 1 Gigabit-per second (Gbps) to customers. The service will use DOCSIS 3.1 technology to deliver these speeds over the company’s existing network infrastructure.

With a 1 Gbps connection, customers can:

Download a 5 Gigabyte HD movie in 40 seconds

Download a 600 Megabyte TV episode in four seconds

Download a 150 Megabyte music album in two seconds and

Download 15 Gigabyte video game in two minutes.

"We’re delivering gigabit speeds over the network that already passes millions of homes in the Chicago area," said Comcast Greater Chicago Region senior vice president John Crowley. "Our commitment to providing customers with a great experience is front and center with this announcement, and we’re proud that Comcast’s Chicago area customers will be among the first in the world to have access to this new Gigabit technology."

The every-day price of the new service with no contract is $139.95 plus taxes and fees. Comcast will test promotional pricing during the trial period. New and current Chicago area customers can visit Xfinity.com/gig to learn about the new service and request additional information. As part of the trial, initial users will be encouraged to provide feedback about the service to Comcast, which will be used to help ensure future market rollouts deliver the best possible customer experience.

299 a month lol

Agree a big jump in price. Overkill speed for a house unless your Freak. Be more for a buisness.

I'm reading the 1gig is cheaper because it uses the existing infrastructure already in place. Guessing the 2gig would need updated infrastructure in your town and neighborhood to receive it.

Edit: The 1gig service requires a new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem to be able to get that speed. Netgear has one at $179.99.

Wow is $99/mo for gig service and 2 yr deal. It was $79 for the first 6+ months they were offering it.

I think TDS is also $99.
