Ideally, he probably would be the #2 hitter but I think they still have hope that he'll grow into being more of an RBI guy.

I think he could be. I have it in my mind that I should see him at the 2 or 3 spot but he keeps getting stuck down at the bottom. Just seems odd...

Bottom line, he's got to show some sort of consistency before he hits 2-5 in the order. I'm not in total agreement with how they've handled Heyward, but he's going to have to play his way into the top of the order.

Your 2 hole hitter can't strikeout. Heyward gets behind in the count waytoo much to be considered for that spot.

How do you like Fredi so far? I'm not too impressed.

I have no problem with hitting Heyward low in the order until he proves he can hit consistently. I have a big problem with where Fredi's been putting Heyward compared to Freeman this year.

If my 2 hitter has an OBP up near .400, then I don't care if every out he makes is a strikeout. The offense was fine with Heyward hitting 2nd most of the year in 2010. If he's really put last year behind him, then you could easily move him back up there.

I still think Heyward will ultimately hit 3rd, with the future heart of the order being Heyward/Uggla/Freeman/McCann. If he develops as expected then he's an ideal 3 hitter.

(I have McCann ending up behind Freeman in a couple of years because A) I expect him to start declining if he remains a catcher, and B) I'd rather hit the guy who misses 30 games a year at 6 rather than 5.)

Coming off the Spring Freeman just had, I can't blame Fredi for giving him the nod over Heyward early on. He was killing everything he saw the last 2 weeks in Orlando.

I'm not anti-Heyward, but like I said a couple of days ago, I want to see him barrel up the ball a lot more often than he is now. Hopefully the HR is a sign of things to come.

Fredi's perfectly willing to move Heyward in and out and up and down in the lineup depending on the situation of the day. So why hit Freeman 3rd based on what he was doing a month ago in Florida?

That is indeed the big guy. Man, I loved watching him play.

Yep, it's Murph. I was just telling the boy earlier that he was the only childhood hero I ever really had.

Ah yes, thanks guys.

Great player. Aside from tracking how fat Horner could get and still hit homers, Murph was why ya went to the games in the 80s.

I just forced my 9 year old to watch a YouTube video. His best questions:

if he was so good, how come that stadium is empty?
how come all the players are skinny?
Are Ernie Johnson and Skip Caray related to Ernie Johnson Jr and Chip Caray?

With that walk of Heyward the Braves front office moans, wondering why their "Slugger" is not swinging his way on?

sigh

I like Freeman there a lot more than I do McCann. I agree with you though about Heyward sitting. It was ridiculous to play him against Johann Santana but not against AJ Happ.
