How bout that Jordan Schafer kid..

Being facetious.

Liberty Media is not interested in fielding proven commodities in the free agency market. Therefore, next year's center field will be a smorgasbord of career minor leaguers and has beens from the scrap heap. So may as well have some fun with it.

Bourn is as good as gone. I would have liked to re-sign him but I don't think he will be worth the money is going to get.

I agree he probably won't be worth what he's going to get paid, but who is these days? If you're not overpaying, your lagging behind.

Why would a pitcher ever swing at the first pitch of an AB, with the opposing starting pitcher on the mound, and no one on base? Why?

I am still glad that cat is not in Braves uni even though he is playing moderately well. I remember when he was the next "Grady Sizemore" I'll admit I bought a ticket on that wagon. BUT NEVER AGAIN.

Funny thing is.. He'll be Michael Bourn with a couple less steals and a couple more HRs. And 11M different price tag.

He is a poor man's Bourn for sure. He has an identity crisis. Strikeout's way too much for a leadoff man that and he has an insatiable desire for kush filled cookies.

Michael Bourn is too old for a one or two year deal then try to get a big contract. This is his only shot at that huge payday and he will get it. It will not be from braves, and I am glad.

Which is why condition #1 was that Bourn's performance crater to the point where nobody wants to give him a $100 million contract.

I don't want to see the Braves give a big (even by their standards) contract to a 30 year old guy whose game is based on speed either. The point was to outline a scenario where it might not be inconceivable that the Braves and Boras would at least talk about it.

He was just flat-out not ready to come up, much less to be given a starting job straight out of spring training. Then he got hurt and then it became a situation where he had to get the hell out of Atlanta to have a chance.

But this is what the Braves do now. Prospects are basically free, so rather than pay established players, you just promote the kids up too fast and throw them into the deep end. If they fail, everybody blames the player because he sucks and was obviously overrated. Cf. the plan to make either Pastornicky/Simmons the SS, even though obviously neither of them was ready.

Check out what Bourn was doing at Schafer's age..

Mike Bourn was a saint.

Actually I wouldn't have cared if Schafer was eating wild shrooms and old tires in the offseason if he was hitting.300, I just found that whole situation quite humorous. He is actually a pretty nice dude compared to how I figured he might be

For the record: I expect the Braves to extend McCann, let Bourn walk, move Prado to 3B, hope Terdoslavich can jump to LF next year (and fill in the usual 25th man stiff if he can't), and plug CF with a short-term crappy acquisition off the scrap heap.

Bad decision if they let Bourn walk because they are cheapskates. It's been forever since we had a true lead off guy.

Oh, they'll definitely let him walk because they're cheapskates. But coincidentally it happens to be a smart decision anyway. Signing a 30 year old guy whose whole game is based on speed to a long-term massive contract makes as much sense as signing a 30 year old catcher to a long-term massive contract. Bourn will go to one of the teams with a payroll such that they don't have to care what that contract will look like when he's 35.
