Winners and losers of the Scherzer deal -- MLB - ESPN

Winners: The Braves

Their decision to swap assets with short-term value -- Jason Heyward, Justin Upton and Evan Gattis -- in order to load up for 2017 looks better today, in light of how strong the Nationals appear to be. Over the next two years, Zimmermann, Fister and Stephen Strasburg are all headed for free agency, and by the start of the 2017 season, when the Braves are scheduled to open their new park, Atlanta should be positioned for a counterpunch.

lol @ Braves winning because of inevitable losing. Thank goodness the Hawks are carrying this town.

So, my boy Butch, based off rankings, has put together one of the best DL classes of all time. Maybe that UF class a few years back is the only one better. After move ups and re-rankings, it looks like this:

Kahlil McKenzie *****
Kyle Phillips *****
Shy Tuttle ****
Andrew Butcher ****
Marques Ford ****
Darrell Taylor ****
Quay Piccou ***

That's pretty unreal for one winning season in 5 years, and we return Barnett and Maggitt. I know Maggitt doesn't mean much being a senior, but the fact Barnett returns and them knowing he won't lose his spot, it's crazy. A lot of scout are sayimg other than McKenzie, Taylor has the highest ceiling. Also, Ford is a year younger than his grade, so he has a high ceiling as well. This rotation in 2 years will be unreal.

Best part is we can develop these guys and take our time with them instead of having to play them from day one.

I'm curious what the two deep will look like. I wonder how much Maggitt will actually line up at DE.

I bet quite a bit. To me, DE seems to be his best position

It does but he isn't a liability at LB. I wonder if he plays LB on running downs and DE on passing downs.

I could definitely see that, especially with no proven LB outside of JRM. 2 deep imo:

SDE:
Barnett
Kyle Phillips

DT:
O'Brien
McKenzie

DT:
O. Williams
M. Sawyers/Mixon

WDE:
Maggitt
L. Lewis

WLB:
JRM
Bates

MLB:
Kirkland
Bryant

Imo, just get him on campus and then see where he fits better. Hard to not want that athleticism chasing QB's tho

Bowman says the platoon would be Gomes and zolio almonte .... Don't know if I should be happy it isn't constanza or pissed we aren't making an effort to field an actual MLB lineup
