Hell, if he has a good year and eat innings I wouldn't mind seeing what kind of deal he would want.

Either way, I am very happy with this and feel better.

If he has a good season, it is going to be very beneficial to us on and off the field. Obviously, still some moving parts, but give him the qualifying offer if he performs. Worse case? Get a comp pick in return.

I see him having a 2009 Javier Vasquez type impact. I really do.

That would be very very impressive

Other than losing a first round pick, (which isn't killer since we have the Mac compensation), there is almost no downside to this deal. At the minimum, we get almost 200 innings for $14M. Minor/Teheran/Santana is a nice top 3.

Vasquez had a really good year in 2009. That bar is a little high.

Well I think Santana has a really good year. I think he will feast on NL pitching.

I didn't say he would have a year as impressive as Vasquez in '09, but will have the same positive impact.

It's not like the guy is an ace, but you nailed it. He wasn't signed to be an ace, and he's roughly a million times better of an option that letting Garcia take the mound every five days for the whole year.

Garcia still might be the fifth starter, unfortunately. But at least it's not going to be Garcia AND the reanimated corpse of Gavin Floyd starting 40 percent of the time. This is a great move even if Santana ends up with an ERA around four and a half.

Broncos ain't even playin.

Demarcus Ware 3/30million

I want to rant here, not at you but the media. Every single one of them is questioning this move based on future cap, calling it Snyder/Jones-like. And from the looks of it, not a single on has actually looked at their future obligations. The Broncos books have very little in future commitments, even with all the signings, and Manning's future. The only way this is hurting their future would be because they aren't wasting money on young FA prospects. But those guys come with big years and big money (see: Talib).

The Broncos might be screwed in the future, but it has nothing to do with these signings. It's all on the future QB being able to replace Manning, which is unlikely.

Santana should be an above average starter in the NL. He's been an AL pitcher up to this point with HR issues. You can't hate on one year deals under most any circumstance.
