Powell can come off a little awkward sometimes, but I think he does a good job. Sutton is showing his age a little, but he's still good doing color.

I like them both a lot. I've come all the way around on Powell. Didn't like him at first, but I enjoy him a lot now.

After years of Ernie, Skip and Pete on the radio, it was going to be hard for anybody to walk in and be accepted. Powell has done a good job of fitting into the conversational style that Braves fans are used to.

As for Sutton, I honestly think he's the best ex-jock broadcaster out there. There just aren't many former players that can slide seamlessly into play by play for multiple innings every night and never miss a beat.

I'd rather listen to Sutton do play by play than most of the generic professional guys. Radio is in far better hands than TV these days.

Once upon a time, Mrs Verc and I were walking out of Fulton County Stadium after the game one night, and we just happened to be about 15 yards behind Sutton. She was so excited to see him, but couldn't remember his name -- she'd only been watching baseball for three or four years at that point. All she could remember was Skip's nickname for him. So all she could do was point and blurt out "Look! It's the Poodle!" Sutton snapped his head around but never broke stride.

Don doesn't always get "legend" credit like Skip, Pete and Ernie did, but I'm pretty sure that other than his little hiatus in Washington, he's been doing Braves games since the late 80s.

I've got him right up there with those three guys. I've sure I've already heard him broadcast way more Braves games than I did Ernie, and if he hangs around a few more years he'll eclipse Skip and Pete too. I think I was in or just out of high school when he started with TBS, and here I am an old man and he's still here.
