I just looked it up - Murph hit 44 home runs in 1987 and then from 1988-1993 he hit 62 total . . . and he spent time in Colorado.

You got it. :good:

Between Chipper Jones, Tom Glavine, Phil Niekro, Hank Aaron and Warren Spahn, we could win a lot of money at that game. We can probably get back to Baba Ruth in less than 7.

You could spend hours on that website looking up stats and team rosters. Remember Archie "moonlight" Graham from Field Of Dreams? He's on there!

Could you imagine the Braves with Carlos Beltran?

That guy is flat out awsome. He made my jaw drop several times in last years playoffs.

Brian Jordan played for the Braves once before. Would be good to see him back and contribute again.

Although i loved the way he led and played, he is well past his prime. If we settle for Brian Jordan we are in trouble.IMO

The NL east has really improved this off season. It should be fun seeing some of these superstars several times a year.

I don't understand about M.Ordonez. Up until last season, he hardly missed a game. Was his injury last year that bad? If healthy, I think that is the guy the Braves need. Chipper and Ordonez would be a great batting combo. I don't remember what OF position he played with the White Sox, but if it was CF, he should be talented enough to handle either LF or RF.

From ESPN.com:Ordonez only played 52 games last season because of the knee injury, his fewest appearances since he was a late-season callup in 1997. Ordonez missed 36 games after injuring his left knee in a May 19 collision with second baseman Willie Harris, then went on the disabled list for good July 22 with bone marrow edema.

The White Sox thought Ordonez was beginning his rehab in September only to learn that he had a second knee operation. Though Ordonez's new agent, Scott Boras, has said he'll be fully recovered by December, Williams said he was told he wouldn't be able to evaluate Ordonez until he holds a workout at the winter meetings -- several days after the arbitration deadline.

Seems like a pretty serious injury. He could probably be acquired at a discount until he proves his knee is OK. Then again you would be dealing with Scott Boras. :bad: :finger:

John Schuerholtz said he is working on a deal that some people would think was "strange" whatever that means. :dunno: Well I guess this is it: Raul Mondesi said he has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Braves on a one-year contract. Mondesi said he chose Atlanta over Baltimore because the Braves offered him the starting right field position. Guess he will hit cleanup.

I think Mondesi has seen his bette days. He is a clubhouse problem and does not fit in Atlanta. I thought there was better talent out there the Braves could have gotten.

I guess they were looking at the $ side of it. He could put up some good numbers for $1M. I don't think they're done either. They have around $7M left to spend and still no LF.

:( Raul Mondesi? :flush: :dunno: He has been known to be a clubhouse cancer. Our outfield went from great to poor really fast! I hope they get a quality LF, I don't think a minor leaguer will do.

But I must stick with my motto .......in Schuerholtz I trust!! :cross:

Schuerholz and Cox could sign a donkey to play the outfield and I would still defer to their judgement. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Good point GA Vol. Some of the same reservations came with JD Drew before last year and I don't think I heard much negativity surrounding him past late May. The professional attitude of the Braves clubhouse has a great influence on potential problem players.

Every time you think the Braves have brought in a questionable free agent just remember that they've won Division titles with guys like John Rocker, Bobby Bonilla, Gary Sheffield, Deion Sanders, and David Justice in the clubhouse.

I think Smoltz and his attempt to return to the starting rotation could be the biggest move of all for the club next season. At this stage in his career, I don't know if he will be able to hold the stamina needed. I don't think he goes past 5 innings and puts pressure on the bullpen with his every start. I think he only had like 2 pitches over the last couple of years he really relied on. The fastball and the splitter. How effective is his curve and will it bring back his arm trouble from a few years ago?

Smotlz and his elbow is a big question mark. They say it will be less stress but I don't see why. A set schedule weekly is great but 100 plus pitchs is tough.

Smoltz's trifecta-

Four-seam Fastball- low, ouside corner tough on righties

Split finger- deadly with lefties

Slider- very tough on righties, late break and 89-91 mph

I really thought the Braves would make one more "big" move this offseason but then remembered this is not the old Braves from the 90's with the deep pockets. They did not have to waste the ink to let me know about picking up Jordan.

So what is the current situation at 1B for this season? I know the Franco will platoon over there, but with who? I was hoping the Braves would go after Mike Sweeney late last year. Did he sign long term with the Royals?

Franco is going to platoon once again with Adam LaRoche..

It would a dream come true if the Braves got Mike Sweeney.. :good:

LaRoche is not bad at 1B, but I don't see why the Bravos cannot get Sweeney. I think he did sign a contract with the Royals, but eventually the losing has to take its toll on a player. I thought that Doug Menkevich (sorry don't know how to spell his name) might be a target for the Braves after his displeasure with his role in Boston and the spat with Red Sox Mgmt over ownership of the final out ball from the WS. He is a very good glove at 1B and is generally an above average contact hitter.

I don't know if the Braves have enough in the field to get back to the WS. I still think they need one more good player, and Jordan is not it.
