Moving to the Atlanta area for work (Hampton). Anyone know of nice areas/neighborhoods in south ATL?? HOA isn't an issue. I don't know jack about South Atlanta.
Check out Eagles Landing area between Stockbridge/McDonough

Not sure if I can trust this information..

jk..homes in that area look exactly like what I am looking for. Thanks!
Be sure and do your research. In the past several years, traffic has gotten rough over there.

I think Im gonna spend a week or two in the area just to get an idea.
A great idea.

I'd go ahead and get a PeachPass while you're at it. You're going to be in an area where it will save you time if you're going to be going up and down 75.

Dont want much to do with the city of Atlanta itself. Looking for a big house, basement, an acre +, but not so rural that I have to go to a Big Roscoes Grocery instead of a Publix. Golf is a plus. I had planned on moving onto a gated golf community here in Orlando but thats changed.

Low crime as well.
What's wrong with Big Roscoe's?

Stay out of Henry County(McDonough/Stockbridge) too crowded. If you want gated community that’s the place to be but traffic is a nightmare not to mention the crime is going up! Definitely check out the Senoia area and southern Fayette county. Might even give all of Southern Coweta County a look if you’re interested in larger lots. I’m in the Sharpsburg area and can be in Hampton in about 30-40mins all back roads with no traffic

My sentiments exactly. Maybe look in Locust Grove/Griffin too.

That is a definite plus!

Gonna have my work cut out for me. Appreciate all the tips everyone!

My only Atlanta experience is the Peach Bowl back in the early 90's and almost getting car jacked near some MLK park when I was a teenager (took a wrong turn..)..

Locust grove appears (on the internet) to have a lot of newer affordable homes.

Toll roads I assume?
Yeah... Top end 75 and southside 75 have reversible toll roads in the median based on time of day. The one on the south side goes from McDonough to I675 in Stockbridge.

Promotion. I'd never transfer to Atlanta! Gonna work at the AOCC, next to ZTL, for a couple of years.

If you are only going to be there a couple of years, rent! (Or, is ATL permanent and THIS job is only a couple of years)

PTC or McDonough are the spots. Heron Bay, Crystal Lake, Eagle Landing are all great golf hoods.
Good Luck!

Didnt consider stock bridge. I will work in Hampton at an FAA center so I am trying to stay within a 40 to 50 mile radius of that.

I plan on getting a list of towns, neighborhoods, etc, and spending a week up there just scoping out areas.

Beware of location within the Stockbridge area. They are going to a city split at the moment. The Eagles Landing area wants to separate and become it's own city. Just something to look into

Personally, if I worked in Hampton, I wouldn't want to live north of town up toward Stockbridge/Jonesboro. It's traffic hell at certain times. I'd go south toward the Griffin area or maybe west toward Fayetteville.
I was thinking that if you lived up there you would be going against the traffic flow and it wouldn't be too bad. probably not any fun, but not the blow your brains out bad. I am a MARTA guy for what its worth.
