So an old friend of mine is coming to Knoxville for the first time and I'm just awful at planning this kind of thing. If you had someone coming in town for the first time on a regular non-sports day, what would you show them? I'm gonna give her a tour of campus and since she'll be here Sunday, we're gonna do brunch somewhere (maybe in Market Square). But other than that, I'm drawing a SERIOUS blank.

Thanks!

I like your idea of Market Square. Maybe give her a car tour of downtown and the Old City as well.

The stadium would be cool if you can find an open door.

You should take her by the World's Fair Park and up into the Sunsphere. It was revamped last year. The Observation Deck is open 11am to 6pm according to their website. I don't think it costs anything to go inside.

James White Fort

Volunteer Landing, and walk down by the river.

Generally there's an open door for Neyland so even if we can just walk straight in to the edge of the field only, that'd be perfect. That's something I was hoping for. Up into the Sunsphere would be really cool too, thanks. And I really thought about the Vol Landing, that should be practically a must. Thanks!

Is there a good show at the Tennessee Theatre? That place is a gem IMO. If you have time, and depending on her interests, GSMNP is definitely one of the best 'attractions' in the Knoxville area - even if just to drive to Clingman's Dome.

It's not an "attraction" per se, but if you want a really good view of Knoxville and the weather is clear, go up to Sharp's Ridge.

Cades Cove

Take her down Pellissippi to Concord Park, visit the Cove at Concord specifically. Nice little park by the water that's got a short, paved walking trail that goes around the edge, then take her to Lakeside Tavern at Concord Marina for a meal.

If you want fancier, but still great meal take her to The Brasserie at Northshore just a bit further down "Psippi".

Fellini Kroger on N Broadway is a good place to visit on a beer run. Best if slightly buzzed first. Actually, grab a six pack at Fellini K and roll on up to Sharps Ridge (Broadway at Ludlow), but watch out for the police and the trolling perverts.

What's the story behind this?
