Auburn 32 Signees?

I don't think backcounting has anything to do with the SEC 28 rule, only the NCAA 25 rule.

Here is the actual language of the rule:

"13.9.1 Letter of Intent-Limitation. Each SEC member institution is limited to signing 28 football prospective student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent and/or institutional offer of financial aid from the February initial signing date through May 31st of each year."

After doing some reseach, I'm convinced that the 28 rule is basically meaningless as long as you have Early Enrolee's. EE's never sign a LOI and do not sign financial aid papers b/w signing day and May 31st.

So basically EE's don't count towards the 28 and the 28 rule is just a meaningless PR stunt by the SEC.

Yep. You have greyshirts and EEs... Auburn could sign 33 from what I have been told.

There is a 85 count which is the real number teams like Auburn would have to be concerned about because it could effect a future class.

So, the Vols could have signed a boatload of players this year since they had 8 EE's and only like 40-50 scholarship players on the 85 limit, after various defections/players kicked off/left for NFL,etc.?

Well, I don't know how many you guys really had to give but I would say you have a pretty solid class. You can use backcount next year instead of signing a bunch of guys you really don't want.

The 85 limit is for real.

Completely ignoring the 25 and 85 rules (which is obviously what actually limits us), I believe the SEC 28 rule means we could sign our 8 EE's plus 28 more b/w today and May 31st.

No...You can only enroll 25 players per year and that is an NCAA, not an SEC rule. That is the reason that despite being gutted by Kiffin, UT will be playing under Dooley as if the NCAA had taken away 6-8 of our scholarships.

I'm not sure what the back count limit is (if there is one) but it's certainly more than 2. I was thinking it was around 5.

That was what I was trying to relay in another post but you told me I was "wrong in all aspects" of my post. Next time maybe you shouldn't be so hard or negative to other posts because it may cause you to eat crow again. Hopefully leason learned for you! GBO!!!!

If I remember correctly, at the end of the season, the Vols only had 62 scholarship players, and will lose several(just looked it up, 15 scholarship Seniors, and 2 Jr.s) of the 62 to graduation or NFL...leaving about 45 scholarship players.....

My point is it could cost you two year later. You don't want to sign guys you don't want if you think you can get some the next year. You guys have a decent class why take guys you don't want in the lower levels.

More is not always best medium or long term. The 85 number is no joke.

That is why I am confused as to why LSU is up to 29, we could have signed I believe 30 or so but we expect a good class next year.

Per wjox (espn radio in al) auburn backcounted 5 ee's to their 2009 scholy limit. I believe the on limiting factor on backcounting is the available spots you had left from the previous year and i think they have to be enrolled by 12-31

And what I was trying to get through your thick skull is that you can only enroll 25 per academic year. We enrolled 23 last year meaning that only 2 of our early enrollee's count towards last year. Just because someone enrolls early does not mean that they're automatically back counted. Which is why we could back count 2 (count with me, 1.... 2.... ) EE's in this class to enroll 27 and possibly sign up to 30.

Where do you get possibly sign up to 30? Read the language of the 28 rule. Backcounting has nothing to do with it.

I think it does, because the 28 only applies to the Feb through May signing period. If you have an EE who backcount, he enrolls prior to February and doesn't count towards your 28.

I agree that the EE doesn't apply to the 28, but that's because he signs Offer of Financial Aid Papers prior to the Signing Day through May 31st period, not because he is being backcounted.

Once again you have ran your mouth without thinking. You would be better served with keeping most of your thoughts to yourself, but if you absolutely must comment on something keep it short and sweet and try not to make reference to peoples anatomy(bad boy!). Now, turn off your computer and go watch Barney or better yet, peewee herman. Bye, Bye! GBO!!!

I guarantee you that 6 of the 8 EE's we had count towards the 2010 class. If not we could have signed 36 guys with 3 as sign and place. Obviously that wasn't the case this year.

ESPN asked Houston Nutt how he was going to deal with just 26 recruits after signing 38 last year!!

You're confusing the NCAA 25 rule and the SEC 28 rule. I agree that for the purposes of the 25 rule we can only back count 2 of the signees. That has nothing to do with the 28 rule though.

Again, read the language of the rule and you'll see that none of the EE's count towards the 28. That's why the 28 rule is pretty much a joke. That doesn't mean we still don't have to abide by the 25 rule though.

What's the story? It was my understanding that the SEC had ruled that teams could only sign 28 in any one year. Am I remembering incorrectly, or just do not know something,(like some signees can still count toward last year's class)...or whatever? :dunno:

I just don't get all of this 28 nonsense
