I just gave you a reason for them to lie.

More he said she said right?

Either way, the NCAA has known about it for 11 months, and no money has surfaced. The Newtons have already provided bank statements, etc.

a really really stupid reason.

no he said, they said. and newton has never said he didn't have this conversation.

they JUST provided bank statements. we have no idea what they show.

I'd be willing to wager nothing comes out of this. No university is retarded enough to leave a $200,000 paper trail. These are big businesses in the modern era of collegiate athletics. They're smarter than that. I would hope...

considering that you have a Harry Potter character in your avatar, I would say you are too young to remember the Albert Means situation

Pay attention...................no one has said AUBURN paid the money. Rogue boosters are hard to police, but yet, the university is on the hook regardless.

If there is more, I would really expect to hear it soon. You know that on Saturday all of the pregame shows will be about this. Plus, every time CN runs for a foot they'll comment about it even more.

Just think the incentive to talk will be so huge after this weekend and all the unanswered questions that more "leaks" are inevitable.

If nothing else this will certainly slow recruiting down.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but if the NCAA levied heavy fines...and I mean heavy monetary fines on coaches rather than punishing the student athletes in cheating programs, I wonder if coaches would be more vested in the issue.

I would expect to hear there is an official investigation soon, possibly. After that, patience.

The 'AA has not known about this for 11 months. The SEC has since January, but the 'AA has only been involved for a month or two.

The fact that multiple coaches are reporting the same thing about this is definitely evidence. Also, apparently the NCAA operates on a Preponderance of the Evidence standard, which means that they'll nail them if it is more likely than not that the violations took place.

The fact that multiple schools turned them in reporting the exact same thing comes close to reaching that evidentiary standard.

Perhaps I've missed something, but the only school who's turned them in has been MSU. But hey, I could be wrong.

Yea, you could be wrong. They are the only school that's been specifically reported in the media as turning them in. But there have been numerous rumors out that the NCAA has statements from other schools basically corroborating everything MSU said.

I was talking to a friend who is big into Bamaonline. There is a guy on there who leaked the Cam Newton story well before ESPN reported on it. From the agent to the church, he was right on the money. He says that there were a couple more players who were paid, i.e. Michael Dyer, Corey Lemonier, etc.

If this is in fact true, could Auburn have the hammer brought down on them early enough to face sanctions next year? If so, we may be looking at another situation where juniors and seniors are able to transfer out without penalties(due to bowl penalties).

I feel like Tennessee would be a prime location for lots of those players... I know that the content is hypothetical, just wanted VN's thoughts on the matter. I'd just like a couple more Malik Jackson's.

bush / usc broke in 2006. took NCAA 3 years to investigate.. nothing going to happen anytime soon

well if Newton declares for the draft right after the season we know there is something to the rumors.

Not really. He's good enough to be drafted and it's been apparent this whole time he's been counting the days until he can go pro.

well it might cost him about 20 million if he comes out this year.. he needs more reps to be a pro qb... he has the tools he needs to refine them to maximize his money...
