Mike Hamilton or the next possible Athletic Director at UT should take a look at what Auburn has done and take notes, as much as I dislike Auburn they canned Tuberville when they knew he was on the downslide. Mike Hamilton sat around and didn't act accordingly when it came to Fulmer and now we are in a mess because of it. Chizik has done very well with recruiting thus far and if he does not show out within the next two years he will be canned just like Tuberville was.

Thoughts?

You are correct. Hamilton, Haslam, and Thunder Thornton sent a message after the 2005 season that UT did not care to be competitive in this conference. They thought that the UT fans would just keep buying tickets and watch mediocre football and like it.

Now they are begging people to buy tickets and some of the fans have figured out that HD and other football options are out there.

Jeremy Foley did the same thing as Auburn after 3 years of Zook.

Tuberville was record was pretty damn impressive up till his last season. AU was looking for a reason to can him. I think it is a little early to consider Chizik an upgrade. They certainly have a very impressive recruiting staff though.

Tuberville got screwed. He was and still is a darn good coach. Much better than the goon they hired. Chizik will be okay until Malzahn bolts, then he will fail. I wouldn't want to model Auburn too much.

We'll see about Tubs at TT. You better be good if you plan on winning in Lubbock. Tubs had Phil's #---that's for sure.

Tuberville was 7-3 versus Bama with 6 consecutive wins against the Tide. 5 Western Division Titles, an SEC title and an undefeated season. Who in their right mind thinks Cheesestick with his 13-24 overall record is a better coach?

I think that Kiffin would have been a good hire had the events not unfolded in which he got the USC job. That's the only reason he left. While I still think he would have made a good coach and recruiter, I'm glad that he's gone because some of his tactics were of poor conduct and not reflecting positively on this University.

However, I think in 10 years, Coach Dooley will have a better 10 year record and have recruited better over that same time period than Coach Chizik. Auburn has always had a pretty good team, they just have to compete with Bama for all of the instate talent, we don't have anyone on that same caliber for our instates.

I don't think that anyone could have expected Kiffin leaving after a year, so I dont think taking notes of Auburn's situation would help us out at all...

Auburn only finished with one more win then we did, and only beat us by 4 points...

Come on now, and they havent been doing any better than us in the past two years in recruiting either.

In 2009, they finished 25th and we finished 15th.
In 2010, they finished 4th and we finished 9th.
For 2011, on average right now they are 10th and we are 25th with a lot of recruiting left to go.

I would say that Auburn would be the best team in the west to compare us to if nothing else, and our team has had to go through a lot more turmoil in the past 2 years than they have and still been able to match them.

JMO, GBO!

And, I forgot to say anything about Tubs, He was a phenominal coach at Aub. Look at his record, and his team might be getting a post-mortem National Title as well. That is what is being said around the NCAA communities. Since USC cheated, some are considering giving it to the undefeated Auburn team. Then add that title to his record, which I think he would have won, had he been given the chance and that looks pretty dang good to me.

one other thing both schools have been threw is being ridiculed about the coach they have hired. Both coaches had losing records at their previous schools.

Most of you do not understand what happened with Tuberville. During the Iron Bowl in 2008 (Auburn was being dismantled on the way to a 5-7 year), one of Auburn's biggest boosters called (I can't remember his name, but he's the guy who owns Yella Wood and makes those heinous commercials) called Houston Nutt and asked him if he was interested in coming to Auburn. Nutt declined but told the story to his agent who also happens to be Tuberville's agent.

After what happened with Auburn and Bobby Petrino in 2003, Tubbs put a clause in his contract forbidding just this sort of activity. What it means is that he could step down himself and still receive his full buyout. He was ready to leave Auburn anyway, that Yella Wood moron just provided him with the perfect opportunity.

Hamilton has made his fair share of mistakes, but it's really not that bad. He's hired Pearl and he's taken us to an elite eight. I expect Dooley to have similar success in several years. Blaming Hamilton for Fulmer's mistakes is wrong. Kiffin's contract was BS, but we needed success fast and Kiffin was probably the best candidate bc of the staff he brought with him. Our fans, I think, had a lot to do with some mistakes in front office issues.

BS Giving Kiffin a contract that could be gotten out of so easily was a mistake. Kiffin was Hamilton's hire and he wiped his rear with the reputation of the university and placed us under NCAA scrutiny. If violations occurred it happened on Hamilton's watch. Giving Fulmer a long extension only to have to buy him out was also a mistake.

I agree to an extent but he had no choice. In Fulmer's previous contract, it stated that if he got a certain number of wins that his contract would get extended... He did and it did, what followed was disasterous

Different set of circumstances but the same end result as always. Mike always seems to lift his skirt and bend over for Jimmy Sexton in contract negotiations.

I'm not disagreeing and in no way am I trying to defend MH, I just don't want ppl to hate him for reasons out of his control.

Hate him for the right reasons, Hiring Kiffin, Not being a more active and involved AD, Letting Coaches run all over him, not acting like he has any control over this program as it has been slowing collapsing around him in the past 5-6 years.

We need to be back in contention for the SEC Title every other year! We used to be. It was UT, Fla, or Bama every year with a seldom jump up from some random school most of the time UGA. Now almost every SEC team is in the race, ppl are talking about Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn, KY, USCe, and even Vandy has got a look some years... It's a sad world, nice to see the SEC competing every year against schools around the nation but I want UT to be a big part of that SEC dominance and we just havent been in a while.

Mike like Fulmer stay too long and didnt take the time to pull a Great Coach in, instead, went with a cheap Coach with a name and a decent staff. Then had to do the same thing again.

Spend some big bucks like Fla and Bama, you will get rewarded.

Uh, I said the Kiffin contract was BS. What I am saying is that Hamilton is under a lot of scrutiny for his decisions under pressure situations. When Dooley works out, I can see the manipulative, crazy fans singing his praises. Hamilton has good and bad marks on his record. But it's not that bad. I hear poor things about the baseball situation but I'm no expert there.

Hamilton will be gone before we see if Dooley works out or not.
