You are correct. Hamilton, Haslam, and Thunder Thornton sent a message after the 2005 season that UT did not care to be competitive in this conference. They thought that the UT fans would just keep buying tickets and watch mediocre football and like it.

Now they are begging people to buy tickets and some of the fans have figured out that HD and other football options are out there.

Jeremy Foley did the same thing as Auburn after 3 years of Zook.

This probably isn't far from the truth. One part that is absolutely true is, as long as there were butts in the seats they weren't going to make a change.

Hamilton sent a message a while back, it's about numbers.

Mike Hamilton or the next possible Athletic Director at UT should take a look at what Auburn has done and take notes, as much as I dislike Auburn they canned Tuberville when they knew he was on the downslide. Mike Hamilton sat around and didn't act accordingly when it came to Fulmer and now we are in a mess because of it. Chizik has done very well with recruiting thus far and if he does not show out within the next two years he will be canned just like Tuberville was.

I agree that Auburn reacted far better with Tubberville than Tennessee did with Fulmer.
They held on to Fulmer a few years too long or the situation would not be as bad as it is right now. Sure he had winning seasons in 06 and 07 but the downward trend had already started in both recruiting and in on-field play. You always project 4-5 years in advance and everyone could have forseen the state of the program in 09 and 10 during Fulmer's last few years.

Also, Chizik brought in a ridiculous recruiting staff.

Auburn has 3 elite national recruiters on it. Rocker, Taylor and Luper. Right now I'd say Tennessee only has 1 in Lance Thompson. It's no wonder Auburn is recruiting so well with those 3 guys on their staff.

One thing about Auburn, coaches start slacking we make a change. Tubbs got lazy in recruiting plain and simple. He had personel problems. His wife was running around on him. We dont need that crap at Auburn. Auburn is Chizs dream job. He will hire and fire assistants as needed. Tubbs wouldnt even do that. Look at our recruiting class 2010. Every player got in except two. Coleman cancer...Richardson JC. When did Tubbs ever accomplish that. Most of his recruits were dumber than a bucket of rocks in the class rm especiallly later on. Chiz is AUsome. I hope he stays at AU forever. As long as he keeps assistants that will work hard. Hell be fine. Good luck with Dooley by the way. Go Tigers

This sounds exactly like Fulmer. The good thing for Auburn is they made the move immediately. They didn't let Tubbs mire around 2-3 years longer than he should have. Had they done that they would likely be in the same hole as Tennessee currently is.

No doubt Kiffin set Tennessee back too with his one and done crap, but it still would not have made the 09 and 10 outlooks any different had Tennessee gone directly from Fulmer to Dooley. Fulmer put this program in a state where it was going to take anyone a good 4-5 years to get them back.

Tuberville got screwed. He was and still is a darn good coach. Much better than the goon they hired. Chizik will be okay until Malzahn bolts, then he will fail. I wouldn't want to model Auburn too much.

Just to set the record straight... Tubberville resigned, not fired, and Auburn still had to pay him to leave.
