Anyone know why people keep expecting Auburn to be much improved? I guess I just don't have as much faith in unproven Malzahn. Just because he was the OC a couple years ago with Superman single handledly winning the NC, doesn't mean a thing to me. Guess I need to be enlightened. Not a whine thread about being higher than the Vols but I live in Bama so Auburn is a big part of my football life. I feel bad for them and hope they overthrow Bama. Be lucky to win 6 games.

I live in Montgomery and i hate Auburn, more than Bama. Since they named Nick Marshall as the starter, i keep hearing on the radio that he's gonna be the next Cam Newton blah blah blah. I dont see them being much better overnight.

Marshall threw like 20 picks last year in Juco I don't think he is the second coming of Cameron Newton

Believe me, Auburn fans are saying the exact same thing about the Vols. IMO UT and AU both made fantastic hires and the product on the field (whether that be in JHS or Neyland) will be better, if not greatly improved from last year. Both programs should make a bowl game. BTW AU averaged 432 YPG and 33 PPG in 2009, Gus's 1st year and year before Cam.

We are in the exact same boat. That means anyone expecting us to hang with Oregon is out of their mind.

They have alot of issues. Lots of ppl think of Malzahn like Petrino meaning they think just bc he's the coach they will magically be awesome and win instantly. But they are mediocre at OL/DL. No WR playmakers. A qb that's played 1 yr of qb at a juco. Yes he's electric with his feet but he had over 20 turnovers in 11 games in juco. They will have a good run game. Secondary is decimated with their leading tackler (Safety Demetruce Mcneal) just getting booted. They took a starting CB and moved him to starting safety in btw springand fall.they have been moving guys into the secondary all fall bc of injuries in the secondary. Their best pass rusher DE Dee Ford is also out for a while. LB play is average. AU has recruited very well but their player development under Chizik was just as bad as UTs was under Dooley. I like our chances against them. They are very similar to us.

I would venture to say that the Vols have more talent on defense and match if not better AU at the skill positions (except for QB). On thing is for sure, that is going to be a huge game for both squads and a fun one to watch.

My wife is an Auburn grad.
If we lose to them this year I might kill myself.

I certainly won't want to go home....

Not sure if they'll be much better but Malzhan has to to be better than Chizick.

On a side note as a Vol fan living amongst the Bammers it's pretty damn easy to be pro-Auburn; never understood the Vol hate for Auburn.

Yes, in my time there I learned that they really are the lesser of two evils. I've even said War Eagle a few times, when they were playing Bama. There was one other time too, but it involved a gorgeous brunette in a tight fitting Auburn tee.

I completely understand. Way easier to like auburn than bama. I like auburn, if for nothing else, they drive bammers absolutely mad.

If you watched the NC game against Oregon or the Bama game that year, you saw who was running the show. It wasn't GC.

That's why they think they will be so much better.

I'm pretty sure Cam Newton's eligibility has expired.

Typical DA response from a Bamer.

Care to detail what was inaccurate about my statement? How did Malzahn's offenses do without Cam Newton under center?

Also, if you are going to call someone a DA, you should learn how to spell "Bammer."

If you could read you would have understood my initial post.

It was evident (means obvious) during those two games alone GC was over his head and GM was making calls well beyond what an OC should be making. That is why they think they will be better.

Doesn't have a dam thing to do with Newton.

What calls were those?

Averaged 431 yards and 33 points per game in 2009....16th in the nation in total offense, right behind Bama.
