Duke offer has clouded his mind, as it should. Hard not to want to play for them.
Notable mentions...
Eliminated Florida and UNC because they are deep at his position, and because they are still recruiting players at his position.
Says he hasn't decided whether or not he wants to stay close or get out. He's close with his family, but at the same time likes the idea of getting out on his own.
Says he is really close with his sister and has always wanted to go to the same college as her.
He would love to play with Robert, and says that they really click well together.
Says watching coach K coach the Olympics is a positive, says K texts him pretty much after every game. Texted him after yesterday's game and said "we got gold".
This sentence screams " I DON'T LIKE OR WANT MUCH COMPETITION FOR PLAYING TIME".
I get what you mean. Just makes me wonder how tough (competitive) the guy is, or if he's scared of competition?Yea that's not a new thing, he's been saying that for awhile. It was just starting to get questioned how serious he was about that. Well, by eliminating Florida and UNC he showed he means it so...hope is that he realizes Duke is pretty damn deep and talented at forward too.
I'm not sure about him now. I would love to land him, but his comments about playing time, the way he said it had me worried, does he have a huge ego.
What'd he say that turned you off?
He wants to go somewhere that he's going to play, it's understandable. He's a talented guy, however, let's use duke as an example. This year they have both plumlees, and amille Jefferson playing forward. That's 3, likely NBA guys at his position. Next year you have, one of the plumlees, probably Jefferson, an Mississippi state transfer Rodney hood becomes eligible, once again 3 NBA guys at your position. So now you're looking at junior year before you likely see any significant minutes and that's assuming that in those 2 years duke doesn't pull a one and done F who flat out is just better than you and demands PT. that's also assuming that Duke doesn't land any of the much higher rated forwards they are recruiting besides him.
It's not to say he's not competitive, but its being smart, and his family is pretty intelligent. They would like him to be in the NBA one day I'm sure, there's a chance that if you go somewhere thats loaded at your position you could take a backseat for a few years. Who knows what happens in that time, do you lose the drive because you're a benchwarmer, do scouts question your ability, lots can happen to hurt your chances.

Oh no I'm not turned off by it, I just don't like the way it sounded. To be the best, you've got to go against the best. It sounded like to me, he's afraid to compete for good position. Now I do agree it could be a smart decision, but I just don't know.
I mean what is he going to do if he does get drafted to a team stacked at his position. If he not going to sign with them, then go overseas so he can start. I just like to see them willing to compete.

First, I haven't heard the interview, so I can't comment on that. But I can comment on both the UM and UT fanbase reaction to it. Memphis fans (some of the more homeristic) listened to the interview and are convinced that Nichols is cold on UT and that it's probably a Memphis/Duke race.
UT fans in this thread hear the complete opposite; that he was praising UT and it's a Duke/UT race.
My advice: don't pay much attention to an interview unless a prospect is cutting his list or committing to a school. The rest is in the eye of the beholder.
