Austin Nichols interview...

Rodney Hood is a wing, BTO. Nichols wouldn't be competing with him for minutes.

at 6'8" 210+lbs, hes basically the same size as Nichols, if the roster was laid to where his PT would come from the 4 he could play it. He played the 3 at miss st because they also had Sydney and Moultrie on the floor. He's a 3/4, can play either, and seeing as how he's the same size as Nichols I was including him as somebody that Nichols would have to compete against.

Hood's not a four in any way, shape, or form. Sure, he's big enough to play that position, but so was Chandler Parsons. Hood's more of a shooting guard than a power forward.

I actually saw Parsons play the 4 some, but ok. Same could be said for Eric Murphy; however I'm not getting into this.

Point remains, the F position (which Hood is listed as on their site) at Duke is loaded, they're recruiting more elite players at the position as well, nowhere near as attractive depth chart as UT.

First, I haven't heard the interview, so I can't comment on that. But I can comment on both the UM and UT fanbase reaction to it. Memphis fans (some of the more homeristic) listened to the interview and are convinced that Nichols is cold on UT and that it's probably a Memphis/Duke race.

UT fans in this thread hear the complete opposite; that he was praising UT and it's a Duke/UT race.

My advice: don't pay much attention to an interview unless a prospect is cutting his list or committing to a school. The rest is in the eye of the beholder.

I agree. You Memphis fans are crazy.

No i'm kidding. But seriously agree 100%. He's not slamming any of the schools at this point unless he's dropping them. Florida was too far away anyways so I'm not sure why we were even worried about them. One thing that all three fan bases can agree on is it's down to Memphis, UT, and Duke. Maybe I have a homer view because I rock the orange glasses a little too much but I think it's down to Duke and Tennessee and don't think he picks Duke in the end. Too confident but Nichols will win many games for us!!! :loco:

I know one thing . I hate when Gary Parrish goes into that "private school kids aren't going to Memphis thing" it makes my skin crawl. But if it's true it had to be a UT/ Duke battle for Nichols.

There just isn't as much UM influence at the private schools.

John Wilfong and Chris Haynes were two Briarcrest kids that went to Memphis St, fwiw.

Hey Spart, anything to Nichols visiting Memphis and putting them in his final 6? Or just respect for the hometown school?

He wants to get away from Memphis.

And a flashback if I may.

In regards to Wilfong, I was a freshman bench warmer on the state runner up team for Briarcrest. We lost to Melrose by 16. Wilfong had 33 of 47 pts, with no 3 point line. Our tallest guy was 6'4, but they couldn't stop Fong. We ran a 3/4 press and tried to force the ball out of the pg's hands, then dropped into a 2/3, or 3/2, or 1/3/1, or 1/3/1 trap. PG was Sidney Atkins, and I think he was over 6'4. Don't remember where he went, but he was nasty. Our problem was the twin towers, William Bedford and Dwayne Bailey, 7'0 and 7'1, who both went to Memphis state, and Bedford on to the Pistons.

My mom transferred into Briarcrest in either her junior or senior year and graduated in the same class as Wilfong. Quite the celebrity from what she tells me.

Ahead of his time HS pg, imo. And his family was a family of ballers. Dad was a stud.

Many of the point guards back then were under 6 feet. John was @ 6'2 or so and had as much instinct for the game in HS than any player I have been around. Really taught me how to use my elbows and shoulders as leverage and how to put them in opponents chest and body when attacking the basket. His spin usually left him open and an elbow in your ribs or back on the way by.
